The Review on EPOS H3 Headphones

The EPOS H3 gaming headset may not break like its wireless little brothers, but it still offers gamers a high-quality, classic-feeling headset. While the lack of a detachable microphone prevents it from being a truly excellent all-rounder headset, its impressively wide soundscape, powerful low-end and brilliant microphone quality make the H3 a great option for indoor audio.

Pros

Impressively deep bass Brilliant blue voice-activated microphone Comfortable and impressively wide frequency response

cons

Pricey for a wired headset The scroll wheel feels clunky Lack of detachable microphone

Key Features

Multi-platform support: Compatibility with Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PC, Switch, PS4, PS5 Closed-back acoustic design: A closed-back design makes it harder to hear distracting sounds in your home
Noise Canceling Microphone: With noise canceling technology, the microphone tries to block out noisy background noise

Introduction

The EPOS H3 is an expensive wired gaming headset for gaming, which has a similar price point to wireless alternatives.

There are not many flashy features here to justify that high cost as well, with EPOS instead focusing on making the audio quality the best it can be.

That doesn’t mean there aren’t good ones features here yes. The EPOS H3 has a closed cap design to block out distracting background noise, offers wide support for game platforms and features a handy one trick where you can mute the microphone by simply pressing it up. But is all this enough to justify the extravagant price? Price and availability

The EPOS H3 is the latest wired headset from Sennheiser’s EPOS gaming series. With an official retail price of £109/$119/€119, these are now available through multiple retailers. Design

It looks sleek but unobtrusive Lack of detachable microphone is a real disappointment The circular scroll wheel feels cumbersome

The EPOS H3 is a sleek – though unobtrusive looking – piece of audio hardware, which is honestly the least you’d expect at this chilling price.

While it will hardly win any awards for design, its sleek black finish and striking metal controls make this feel like a premium kit to match its high price point. That said, the headset feels a little more ‘gamer’ than, say, the more mature-looking Corsair HS75.

Made from two different materials, you’ll find a soft fabric that covers the areas of the H3 that touch your head, with a soft faux leather lining on the outside. With the traditional EPOS logo on the left, along with a surprisingly bulky lever-style microphone, there’s little spice in the way.

On the right, you’ll find the H3’s one and only piece of interactive hardware: a small scroll wheel. It feels like one of those round locks you find on the back of a soundbar remote, the audio volume is adjusted by turning the knob. It’s an odd design decision, and one that feels a lot less intuitive than your classic scroll wheel or button Press.

The ‘one size fits all’ wired connection makes the H3 a great cross-platform all-rounder. Not limited by platform-specific wireless codecs, the H3 comes with both a standard 3.5mm headphone cable and a PC-ready audio cable. Speaking of that 3.5mm connector, the first time I tried plugging in my H3 I was convinced my review pair was faulty as it takes a lot of force to plug the jack in for the audio to come through clearly.

The other main thing that lets the H3 down is the lack of a detachable microphone. Dressed up with a huge, lever-like microphone, its durability means this isn’t a headset you can take outdoors.

Overall, the H3 is well built for its primary purpose. Thanks to the soft foam ear cushions, wearing the H3 for shorter gaming sessions is a pleasant experience. Sitting snug — but not tight — over your skull, adjusting the fit is as easy as gently prying the stainless steel sliders apart. But like many mid-range overhead gaming headsets, I still found wearing the H3 started to give me a headache after more than a few hours of use. Audio and microphone
