Wouldn’t the world be great if we could all just work together? Enemies can be allies, enemies can be friends. Lenovo’s Legion 5 Pro proves what’s possible when two opposing forces come together for the greater good. Those forces are AMD and Nvidia, and the greater good is the gaming community. Armed with an AMD Ryzen 7 5800 CPU and Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 graphics, the Legion 5 Pro gives gamers the power they need to run the latest AAA titles with Ultra graphics settings.

Stellar achievements don’t tell the full story. Seemingly inspired by its corporate ThinkPad relatives, the Legion 5 Pro shows off one of the best keyboards I’ve ever used. Coupled with a comfortable typing experience is a bright and vibrant 16-inch screen, a wide choice of ports and decent battery life. Best of all, the Legion 5 Pro is aggressively priced at $1,529. The laptop’s dull and thick chassis means it won’t satisfy mobile gamers, but for everyone else the Legion 5 Pro is one of the best gaming laptops available today. Lenovo Legion 5 Pro price and configuration options

The price varies depending on the retailer. For $1,529 (at Walmart), our review unit comes with an AMD Ryzen 7 5800H CPU, 16GB of RAM, a 512GB SSD, and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 GPU with 8GB of vRAM.

Lenovo’s website has some strange pricing schedules. For $1,699 you can get the Legion 5 Pro with an AMD Ryzen 7 5800H CPU, 16GB RAM, a “1TB SSD + 1TB SSD” and an Nvidia RTX 3060 GPU with 6GB vRAM. There is also a $1,959 edition with the same specs but an RTX 3070 GPU. Finally, there is a 32 GB RAM model with an RTX 3070, but the price is not fixed.

Simple and straightforward, the Legion 5 Pro strips the chassis down to the essentials and lets you focus on what matters.

The Legion 5 Pro is not attractive laptop, but what it trades in beauty is gained in utility. The generic chassis is a soft gray color and the only regalia is an illuminated Y-shaped Legion logo centered on the aluminum lid. An RGB glow on the four-zone keyboard puts on a pleasing light show, but it’s not the same fireworks you get from per-key RGB lighting. Centered on the deck is an LED illuminated power button and Lenovo’s usual T-shirt tag branding discreetly hides on the wrist rest and spine.

Lenovo Legion 5 Pro

Practical, if not pretty, the Legion 5 Pro flaunts thin screen bezels that keep your eyes focused on gameplay, and features a large keyboard and trackpad to make sure you take down your enemies before they defeat you. Everyday conveniences include a lip on the front for easy one-finger opening of the lid and a webcam kill switch to ensure your privacy.

turn the laptop over and you’ll see large rubber bumpers that provide plenty of room for air to flow freely once pushed out through the four vents. Those giant fans flank the I/O at each end of the Legion 5 Pro’s spine, making the rear of the laptop reminiscent of a DeLorean.

Lenovo Legion 5 Pro

The Legion 5 Pro feels robust – and its hefty weight is only partly to blame. The double hinges are rigid and the construction has a certain rigidity. Oh, about the weight. At 5.4 pounds and 14 x 10.4 x 1.1 inches, the Legion 5 Pro is heavier than the Razer Blade 15 Base Edition (4.6 pounds, 14 x 9.3 x 0.8 inches), but weighs less then the Acer Predator Helios 300 (5.5 pounds, 14.3 x 10 x 0.9 inches) and the Asus ROG Strix G15 Advantage Edition (6.6 pounds, 13.9 x 10.2 x 1 inches). Lenovo Legion 5 Pro ports

Left, right and center, with several ports along the Legion 5 Pro, you can connect peripherals and enjoy the fastest internet speeds.
