The Review on Puro Sound Labs JuniorJams

Pros Clear highs and rich bass depth Both Bluetooth and wired audio are limited to 85dB No limit switch to turn on dangerous volume levels Cons Slightly pricey Achieving a good fit takes some effort

The Puro Sound Labs JuniorJams hit some good spots for kid-friendly headphones. Sonically, she feature a volume-limited wireless experience that still delivers solid bass depth, so their relatively low volume won’t feel like a punishment to your kid. A cable is also included for wired listening, and this also limits the volume. At $69.99, the price is a little steep for this category, but the JuniorJams are certainly not the most expensive kid’s headphones we’ve tested, and they offer the best value for the price. This earns them our Editors’ Choice award for kids’ headphones. A fun, versatile design

Available in blue/black, green/white, pink/white or teal/white, the supra-aural (on-ear) JuniorJams have small ear cups that fit children and teens, and even adults, provided the headband is detached considerably. The models with white headbands look a bit more like a child’s headset, while the pair with a black headband and blue ear cups look more like a typical adult model.

The ear cushions are comfortable when the tension of the headphones is properly adjusted, but if the band is too tight, the ear cushions can exert uncomfortable pressure, so it is important that it fits your child just right. The enveloping vegan leather on the headband and ear cups offsets the cheap plastic feel on the rest of the headphones. Internally, 40mm dynamic drivers deliver the audio; the headphones are compatible with Bluetooth 4.2.

There is an on/off switch in the left earcup, which also puts the headphones into Bluetooth pairing mode. The audio cable connector can also be found on the left earcup. The side panel of the right earcup houses volume up/down buttons, a game/pause button, and a status LED that flashes when paired. There’s also a micro USB port here for charging and for daisy-chaining two headphones. The game/pause button handles incoming calls and track navigation too: tap twice to go forward or three times to go back a track. puro soundlabs juniorjams lifestyle

The audio is limited to 85dB, both when streaming audio via Bluetooth and when the supplied cable is connected. (Make sure the cable is connected in the correct direction as the ends look identical; there are arrows on it to guide u.) The cable is missing an inline remote or microphone.

You also get a USB-A to Micro USB charging cable, a Micro USB to Micro USB cable to daisy-chain two headphones, and a nylon drawstring pouch that folds the headphones for easy access. storage .

Puro Sound Labs estimates the JuniorJams battery life is around 22 hours, but your results will vary depending on your volume levels. There is an auto power off feature that turns on after 10 minutes of disconnection, which is very convenient as the power switch can easily be left in the on mode by accident. I am guilty of this mistake but was happy to see the headphones still had juice when I put them back on up. JuniorJams Audio Performance

The following tracks may not be in your kid’s playlist, but they’re part of our regular test suite and give a clear idea of what the drivers are capable of. On tracks with intense sub-bass content, such as The Knife’s “Silent Shout”, the JuniorJams deliver a strong sense of low frequencies without overpowering the mix or distorting it. Puro Sound Labs Junior Jams

Bill Callahan’s “Drover”, a track with much less bass in the mix, gives us a better idea of the overall sound signature of the JuniorJams. When the headphones are placed properly, the drums have a nice, full-sounding depth. The acoustic strumming and higher percussion on this track are clear, and overall this is a balanced, rich and clear sound signature.

On Jay-Z and Kanye West’s “No Church in the Wild”, the kick drum loop takes on enough high-mid presence for its attack to maintain its punchiness, while the vinyl crackles and hiss in the background also step forward. The sub-bass synth hits are delivered with a solid sense of depth without going overboard, and the vocals are delivered clean and clear, with maybe a little extra hiss. The JLab JBuddies Pro Wireless offer less brightness than the JuniorJams, and a little more bass.

The JuniorJams also deliver a great movie audio experience. The bass depth in Blade Runner 2049 was impressive, but never got in the way of clear dialogue.

The built-in microphone provides solid intelligibility. Using the Voice Memos app on an iPhone, we were able to clearly understand every word we recorded, although the signal is a bit weak and there is a high-frequency hiss in the background. Kid-friendly headphones that put audio first

At first glance, the Puro Sound Labs JuniorJams may seem a bit overpriced, but the sonic experience they deliver is impressive. Even at low volumes, the audio feels full and clear for music and movies. And unlike some competing models, the 85dB volume limit is always imposedβ€”there’s no switch like with the $35 JLab JBuddies Pro Wireless. Ultimately, the JuniorJams offer the best value for money, with excellent sound quality and no way to turn up the volume to dangerous levels. That means you can feel comfortable knowing your child is listening to safe, high-quality audio, and it deserves the JuniorJams, our Editors’ Choice award.
