Still uses a plastic body
Samsung’s A Series phones are middle class phones with a little more premium features than their M-series counterpart. Last year, the A51 from the A-series was the best-selling Android phone.
Enter 2021, they have launched the successor to A51 in the form of Samsung A52. So, how good is the A52? Let’s find out in this review of Samsung A52.

159.9 x 75.1 x 8.4 mm 189 g Nano-SIM, dual standby IP67 dust/water resistant Plastic back, aluminum frame
Samsung A52 immediately looks better phone then the A51. The switch to the matt plastic of glastic finish is a wise choice. Although the device remains light and thin, the smooth back panel catches the eye.
While it won’t get a premium build, it will get IP67 certification for dust and water resistance, which is a premium feature for this segment.
Beforehand, the A52 will have a perforation design similar to the A72. It is minimal and much smaller than the M62’s hole punch. Also on the front it gets an in-display fingerprint scanner that works better than the predecessors. It’s still not where it should be though, as I was greeted with the occasional misreading.
While we’re on the subject of unlocking, the face unlock isn’t impressive either. It does well in good lighting conditions, but is not as fast as some Chinese competitors.
High refresh rate display matters
6.5 inch Super AMOLED 1080 x 2400 pixels 90Hz, 800 nits (peak brightness)’
Some may wonder if the high refresh rate is worth the hype. Well, it sure does matter.
Once you get the hang of a high refresh rate screen, going back to the normal screen feels boring. That’s why a 90Hz display panel on the A52 makes sense. Yes, it is not a 120Hz display like the Redmi Note 10 Pro Max. But it feels smooth enough.
I was actually impressed with the implementation of a high refresh rate on the A52. It supports 90Hz on most apps like Facebook, Instagram, Spotify and Google News. I didn’t find the drop in smoothness even in non-optimized apps like Facebook.
However, it does not support 90Hz in some games like COD Mobile and the Camera user interface. Also note that it is not a variable refresh rate panel.
