The Review on Skoda Kushaq First Drive

Skoda was one of the few European brands that understood the Indian market well. The Czech auto giant has launched several products in the past and present that have resonated well with Indian buyers. It doesn’t seem to end with the past and present, but Skoda may have some brilliant aces up also his sleeve for the future. Skoda Kushaq Review (First Drive) – Arrival of the King in the Compact SUV Segment This – the Skoda Kushaq – is proof of the pudding. Skoda seems to have made it perfect to meet what the segment needs and we got our hands on the new SUV. “Does it have what it takes to disrupt competition? How does it drive? Will it be value for money?” are some of the questions we had in mind when driving the Kushaq. Read this Skoda Kushaq review to know the answers. Skoda Kushaq Review (First Drive) — Arrival of the King in the Compact SUV Segment Design and Style In terms of design and styling, the Skoda Kushaq perfectly embodies the Skoda genes in a mid-size SUV package. take fame up front is Skoda’s signature butterfly grille, flanked by slim headlights with LED daytime running lights. The fog lamps are located under the headlight, in the bumper. Skoda Kushaq Review (First Drive) — Arrival of the king in the compact SUV segment The front bumper is muscular and gives the Kushaq a rather daring stance. It gets some honeycomb elements along with plastic trim and a faux bash plate. The stylish 17-inch alloy wheels move to the side and immediately attract attention. The two-tone alloy wheels are given a brushed finish on the outside with gloss gunmetal gray on the inside. Skoda Kushaq Review (First Drive) – Arrival of the king in the compact SUV segment Even the door handles get this two-tone finish and just add to the great design. The front side panels get stylish Skoda badging finished in Piano Black and the two-tone ORVMs have indicators integrated into them. At the rear, the Skoda Kushaq gets a very short overhang that is in some ways reminiscent of the good old Skoda Yeti. Skoda Kushaq Review (First Drive) – Arrival of the king in the compact SUV segment At the rear, the Skoda Kushaq comes with a thoroughly modern design, complete with split taillights. The reflectors on both sides of the SUV are connected by a chrome strip that runs the width of the tailgate. The chunky rear bumper is complete with a faux bash plate. Skoda Kushaq Review (First Drive) – Arrival of the King in the Compact SUV Segment The Skoda Kushaq is the first product to emerge from the India 2.0 strategy adopted by Volkswagen and Skoda in India. We quite like the design it carries and we expect other models from Skoda to continue a similar design language. Skoda Kushaq Review (First Drive) – Arrival of the king in the compact SUV segment Cockpit & interior Pull the sturdy door handles and swing the door wide and you’re greeted by an almost drab, yet stylish interior. There’s none of the pretty contrasting colors offered by the Kushaq’s rivals. It is a two-tone interior with black and gray as the primary colors. Skoda Kushaq Review (First Drive) – Arrival of the king in the compact SUV segment The gray area on all seats is perforated, which provides better breathability while ventilating the front seats. The dashboard mainly uses gray plastics with brushed aluminum finishes on certain panels. It even gets a honeycomb-like material that surrounds the infotainment screen. The center console trim is finished in Piano Black. Skoda Kushaq Review (First Drive) – Arrival of the king in the compact SUV segment At the center of the dashboard is a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It is loaded with features like built-in navigation and can connect to your smartphone via the Skoda Play app, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and even get the SMARTLINK wireless connectivity suite. Skoda Kushaq Review (First Drive) – Arrival of the king in the compact SUV segment Using this system is a breeze and the touch sensitivity is great. The screen does not choose up any accidental touches while driving and many of its functions can be controlled via the handlebar-mounted controls. The sound reproduction via the six ‘Skoda Sound’ speakers and a subwoofer is quite good. Skoda Kushaq Review (First Drive) – Arrival of the king in the compact SUV segment Instrumentation is handled by an analog-digital cluster. The TFT screen displays a lot of vehicle-related information, including range, outside temperature, trip meters, odometer, etc. It is flanked by the tachometer and engine temperature gauge on the left and the speedometer and fuel gauge on the right. Skoda Kushaq Review (First Drive) – Arrival of the king in the compact SUV segment Below the infotainment screen are the central air vents and below that are the climate control controls. Most of the controls are haptic-touch-oriented and this gives it a rather premium feel. Skoda has equipped the Kushaq with a wireless charging station for smartphones.

Moving to the back seat further improves the comfort quotient. The Kushaq comes with AC vents on the back and two USB ports underneath for: mobile phone load. It also gets a fold-down armrest with cup holders. Skoda Kushaq Review (first ride) – Arrival of the king in the compact SUV segment Comfort, functionality and boot space Comfortable seating for the occupants has always been the strongest point of Skoda’s cars. The Skoda Kushaq is no different in this regard. The front seats are quite sporty and get good lumbar support, lateral support and even thigh support. The seats keep the driver and front passenger in place, even when cornering hard. The front seats are ventilated and cooled. It gets two settings for ventilation Skoda Kushaq Review (First Drive) — Arrival of the king in the compact SUV segment Comfort is further increased at the rear. The Skoda Kushaq has plenty of headroom, knee room and legroom. The rear seat is also sporty and offers comfortable seating for the passengers. The comfort quotient is absolutely class-leading. Skoda Kushaq Review (First Drive) – Arrival of the king in the compact SUV segment The Skoda Kushaq comes with an electric sunroof, and this certainly adds to the airy feel in the carbon and makes it feel more spacious than it actually is. Dimensions Skoda Kushaq Length 4,225 mm Width 1,760 mm Height 1,612 mm Wheelbase 2,651 mm Trunk space 385 liters Ground clearance 188 mm Skoda Kushaq Review (First Drive) — arrival of the king in the compact SUV segment Engine performance and driving impressions The Skoda Kushaq is available with two engine options in the Indian market. They are petrol engines and both are turbocharged. The lower specification model is powered by a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine, while the top model gets the more powerful 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine. Skoda Kushaq Review (first ride) — Arrival of the king in the compact SUV segment The variant with the 1.5-litre engine delivers 147.5 hp at 6,000 rpm and 250 Nm at 3,500 rpm. Buyers can choose between a six-speed manual and a seven-speed DSG for transmission duties. The 1.0-litre engine, on the other hand, has a maximum power of 114 hp at 5,500 rpm and maximum torque of 175 Nm at 1,750 rpm. It is available with a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic. This is the variant we are allowed to drive. Skoda Kushaq Review (First Drive) – Arrival of the king in the compact SUV segment We were initially skeptical about the small engine and its performance, but the Kushaq soon proved us wrong. Power delivery is smooth initially, but boost kicks in around 2,200 rpm. This is where the Skoda Kushaq turns into a fun SUV. The car has a strong mid-range between 2,200 rpm and 4,800 rpm. Skoda Kushaq Review (First Drive) – Arrival of the king in the compact SUV segment The two-spoke steering wheel is taken straight from the Octavia and looks classy. The steering response is great and responds quickly to any input. The steering feels light at lower speeds and slightly heavier at high speeds. Skoda Kushaq Review (First Drive) – Arrival of the king in the compact SUV segment The suspension is on the softer side, but feels a little harder than the other cars in its segment. This results in good driving skills. The SUV can corner at high speed, but will lose grip at very high speeds due to the body roll. The brakes feel good and are powerful enough to keep the car under control regardless of speed. The Skoda Kushaq gets disc brakes up front and rear drum brakes. Although the braking was strong, we ended up up also wish rear disc brakes. Skoda Kushaq Review (First Ride) – Arrival of the King in the Compact SUV Segment In terms of fuel efficiency, the Skoda Kushaq returned at around 8.5 to 11.6 km/l in the urban jungle. We couldn’t really test it on the highway, but it should be between 14-16 mph at cruising speeds. Stay tuned for our detailed test review for the actual numbers.

Skoda Kushaq Review (First Ride) – Arrival of the King in the Compact SUV Segment Security and Key Features The Koda Kushaq is one of the safest cars in its segment.
