The Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2 review (M3IETW2)

There’s a lot going on in the noise canceling room, as we like to listen to music in our own sheltered bubbles, isolated from what’s happening outside. While there are many choices in this space, they don’t always fit the true spectrum of what you might want to hear.

Balance is the holy grail of most earphones, and not something everyone achieves. It can be bossy and bassy, or a little more focused on the highs in life. It can be warm and rounded and balanced as closely as possible, emulating how a speaker sounds, or it can just be balanced overall.

Despite being the obvious target of earphones, balance isn’t always easy to achieve. Usually we only see it from Apple and Bose, while Sony tips balance to be warmer, more like speakers. Oppo is also venturing that way, while Sennheiser typically focuses on pure balance, playing on its audio heritage, which the company is more or less known for.

And here we are again with a new pair of earphones from a company known for audio as Sennheiser introduces its first generation of premium truly wireless earphones, the Momentum True Wireless 2. Are they everything you could hope for and wonderfully high-end, or can they still do some work? To design features

Sennheiser is no stranger to premium headphones and already produces some of the most expensive you can find. While we’ve never heard of anyone buying their extremely expensive Orpheus headphones, if you have an extra $88,000 you might be persuaded to look at the Sennheiser HE1 Orpheus, which are arguably the most expensive headphones we’ve ever had. have thrown into our ears.

However, these are not those headphones. While $499 isn’t necessarily a price to scoff at, and sits at the top end of true wireless noise-cancelling earphones, they also hint at the premium approach Sennheiser advocates in the Momentum True Wireless 2.

In this pair you’ll find a 7mm driver in plastic on each side, support for active noise cancellation, IPX4 water resistance and a number of in-ear headphones tips which have a cross on the inside, which makes them different from the usual range of d tips we see. There are a few sizes in the box, while the earpiece controls on each side are a touch-sensitive pad that can be adjusted with an app.

The earphones, of course, come with a charging case covered in fabric, which makes them unlike anything else out there.

That charging case can last a whopping 28 hours with the earphones and is charged via the USB Type-C port on the back. There is also a little push button that can light up up a nearby LED to tell you if the box is charged. In use

The Sennheiser app with the Momentum True Wireless 2

The controls are really a “tap here”, and while they aren’t great out of the box, Sennheiser lets you customize the Momentum True Wireless 2 with an app that works on iOS and Android. Unlike the Huawei FreeBuds 4i, another pair of noise-canceling true wireless earphones competing in this space, you can customize the controls to what you want by using an app. Imagine that.

Comfort is another factor worth talking about, as it was something we struggled with in Sennheiser’s first-generation Momentum True Wireless earphones. Like that model, the gen twos may appear slightly larger than other earphone options, but they are much, much more comfortable.

You still need to find the right one tip, choose between XS, S, M and L, but once you do all you have to do is press it, twist it a bit and they will hold well. In addition to the snug fit, we found them more comfortable this time around and didn’t have any of the earaches we found with the first model, which was quite large overall. Performance

However, as with all earphones, how they perform is what matters most, and with Sennheiser’s reputation, that’s going to be a big one here. As we do with all our headphone reviews, that’s handled by listening to the Pickr Sound Test, which you can listen to for yourself, and let us listen to the same songs repeatedly to put earphones, headphones, and other audio gadgets to the test.

Starting in electronic with Tycho and Daft Punk, there’s a strong balance across everything, with clear highs and mids, and a nice and detailed punch on the low end. The track that kicks off every headphone test at Pickr delivers clarity in spades, with the bottom drop in “Glider” something you can feel, almost as if your body has just succumbed to weightlessness.

It’s a similar feel to the lively percussion in Daft Punk’s “Contact”, with an even balance applied to the track and plenty of detail, with all the drums crisp and clear. The bass drum offers a good round sound and although the volume should be kept around fifty percent for us, it is a nice sound with a lot of offer.

In pop and soul we heard everything we were looking for. The tone of Ariana Grande’s “Into You” was even and clear, while Charlie Puth’s “Done For Me” sheds light on thick bass and strong vocals, expressing the sound so clearly that it complements the Momentum True Wireless 2 earphones with the best rate of the bunch. While they can’t really be described as warm, they don’t miss the guttural sounds we look for in FKA Twigs’ “Two Weeks,” bumping our ears in just the right way.

The Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2. to wear

In rock nothing is lost, from the silky smooth vocals of Muse to the strong and pronounced bass, guitars, synth and drums in “Madness”, while the airy drums of Deftones’ “Digital Bath” are not lost to the guitar or round bass, or even the whispering vocals over the chorus.

It gets even better with classics like David Bowie’s “Starman” that brings every instrument to life without missing a beat, complete with light percussion at the back right, something we don’t always hear. With Paul Simon, The Beatles and The Who, it’s a nuanced sound that takes nothing away and keeps your ears happy, and it’s pretty much the same in jazz and classical. Music was smooth and defined in Date Brubeck’s “Take Five” and Miles Davis’ “Flamenco Sketches”, resulting in an easy to listen and enjoyable sound.
