The Skullcandy Jib earbuds review

Skullcandy has a range of earplugs at different prices. Last month, it launched a pair of Jib True wireless earbuds priced at Rs 2999. Skullcandy promises 22 hours of battery life with the Jib True, 6 hours in the earbuds and 16 hours in the box. The earbuds also have an IPX-4 rating, which means they are sweat resistant and can be used while walking or jogging. We used the earplugs for about two weeks and that’s how they performed. This is our Skullcandy Jib earbuds review.

Review of Skullcandy Jib Earbuds: Design

The Jib True earbuds from Skullcandy come with a charging case, a USB charging cord and three earbuds in small, medium and large sizes. The earbuds also come with an instruction card to get you started and come with a one-year warranty. The earbuds we reviewed were blue with a red ear tips with the housing being yellow from the inside giving it a colored Superman logo. The earplugs are also available in black.

The Skullcandy Jib True wireless earbuds are made of plastic, with a matte finish that gives them a rich look. Both the earplugs and the ear tips have a Skullcandy logo on it. The Skullcandy Jib’s charging case is also made of plastic and features a Skullcandy logo with a charging port on the back. The earplugs fit well in the case and have a magnetic grip and do not fall out easily. However, I found the lid of the charging case a little loose and it just closed on its own without any external force applied to it. Perhaps that’s a detail that can be ignored as the earbuds stay in place when charged. The earplugs can also be used as a separate part.

Skullcandy’s Jib True have a snug fit and are lightweight, and being wireless makes it a pro as I could do things like clean my room or other chores with the unit set aside. However, if you move vigorously, chances are they will fall out of your ears. For example, the earplugs fell straight out of my ears when I sneezed once and moved my head. The earbuds are also not ideal if you are thinking of wearing them during vigorous, intense workouts. However, they can be worn on walks.

Skullcandy Jib Earbuds Review: Software

The Jib True does not require or support associated apps. You just pair them directly and then use your device or music player’s EQ if you need to make audio adjustments. There doesn’t seem to be a way to upgrade the firmware. The Jib True have 6mm dynamic drivers in each earbud with a frequency response of 20-20,000 kHz, 98-103 dB SPL and <3% THD at 1 kHz. They support SBC and AAC over a Bluetooth 5.0 connection. There is no support for multi-device pairing. The earbuds connect in a master-slave configuration, with one (master) connecting to the source and the other (slave) to the master.

Skullcandy Jib Earbuds Review: Performance

The Skullcandy Jib True are mediocre sounding earplugs. The tonality is heavily focused on the low end, which is typical of budget audio products. The bass response is heavy-handed, with a fairly large dose of bass boost over the low end, making the bass booming and overwhelming. It’s a more quantitative approach than a quality approach, and you don’t get any nuance in the bass notes; just a lot to give a rumble and boom to everything you listen to.

The mid-range would have been fine if the low end didn’t completely dominate it. Much of the low-mid and mid-midrange is masked by the bass and while the midrange itself is not recessed, it cannot compete with the bass in terms of volume and presence in the overall mix and ends. up sit in the back seat. The high end is boring and lacks energy. You get a largely usable presence in this region, but treble fans will be disappointed by the lack of clarity and detail in the higher registers, with all treble having no definition.

The sound is generally quite mediocre in terms of detail and resolution. The imaging is fine, but the soundstage is quite narrow and focused in the center. The lack of a companion app means that you have to rely on your source or music player app for EQ. After you’ve made some cuts on the low end and boosted the upper-mids and low-treble, you can get some competent sound out of the Jib True, at least in terms of overall tonality. Based on your taste and favorite content, you can of course also be very happy with how these earplugs sound out of the box.

The Jib True lacks active noise cancellation. The ear tips can block passive noise and in most cases provides adequate levels of insulation for indoor use. When audio is playing it would be difficult to hear background noise. The Jib True had reliable connectivity during testing. No recorded audio dropouts or pairing issues were observed during testing.

Review of Skullcandy Jib Earbuds: Battery and Controls

As far as battery is concerned, the Jib True gives six hours of battery life with 16 hours of battery life from the case. I could use the headphones for more than two days without charging them. The earbuds paired with my pretty easily via Bluetooth phone and laptopThe earbuds are automatically paired after you have paired them with your device through the settings. The LEDs on the earbuds will turn blue. However, if you are someone who pairs multiple devices at the same time, you may need to go to your device’s settings and pair them again or disconnect other devices.

Have the earplugs button controls and are not touch sensitive. a button in each button can be used to control functionality. The earbuds are pushed further into the ears when you try to adjust the controls, causing a bit of inconvenience. The Jib True too features dual microphones, that is, both earbuds have microphones for clean, clear conversations.

You can use the button for two seconds to turn on the power and for four seconds to turn them off. To play or pause music, users need to press the earbuds once. The same goes for answering calls. Keep the button press the left button for two seconds, allowing users to go back one track. Press on the button on the right side for two seconds a track will advance. Press the button three times to activate the smart assistant. The Jib True wireless is not compatible with the Skullcandy app, so the sound cannot be adjusted, and users will have to make do with what comes out of the box, which was pretty decent in my experience.

Review of Skullcandy Jib Earbuds: Final Words

As mentioned at the outset, the Skullcandy Jib True are an affordable pair of wireless earbuds. For those who want something simple and inexpensive, for themselves or someone else, the Jib True can be a great option. The audio quality isn’t technically impressive, but those who enjoy an abundance of bass in their music might still like it. The earbuds also have some niceties, such as water resistance and a fairly long battery life. But if you can afford to spend a little more, there are better-sounding options on the market like the Lypertek Levi and Jays F-five.
