Samsung Galaxy S8 plus Hands On

April 1, 2017

Samsung on Wednesday introduced the Galaxy S8 Plus at an event in New York. The device packs a Snapdragon 835 processor, a Quad HD+ display and 4GB of RAM. It also has some upgrades over its smaller brother that are price considering: a 3,500mAh battery and a 6.2-inch display.

  • 6.2-inch quad-HD Infinity Display
  • 3500mAh battery with wi-fi and quick charging
  • 4GB RAM, 64GB storage (microSD as much as 256GB)
  • Samsung Exynos 8895 (Europe and Asia) or Qualcomm Snapdragon (USA)
  • Front camera: 8 megapixels
  • Rear camera: 12 megapixels
  • Headphone jack, NFC, and IP68 water-resistance
  • Samsung Bixby personal assistant
  • Iris and fingerprint scanner
  • Android 7 Nougat with Google Assistant

You’ll notice the re’s no bodily home button. In its area is a virtual home key that reacts with haptic feedback to let you know you’ve hit the right spot. You’ll be able to, of course, adjust that level of haptic feedback if it seems a little unfamiliar to you at first.

The S8+ has the identical huge 2960×1440 resolution as the S8. However, thanks to its greater size, has a lower pixel density of 529ppi, in comparison with the S8’s 570.

The S8+ doesn’t have a dual-sensor system. Instead, the re’s a single 12MP sensor on its back with a wide f/1.7 lens that uses the identical dual-pixel tech as the S7. A new multi-frame image processor takes three photographs every time you snap, reducing blur and leaving you with a sharper single picture.

The front camera has seen a bigger improvement. The new 8-megapixel sensor has a f/1.7 aperture, and the re’s autofocus too, which is still a rarity on selfie cameras.

Beneath the hood, the S8 plus comes with a 3500mAh battery, which is a smidge smaller than the S7 Edge’s 3600mAh juice pack. However, the new 10nm Exynos CPU should mean extra power efficiency as well as more power. In theory, you’ll get one for the Best of both worlds. However, we’ll reserve judgment till we get our review unit and see how that holds up in the real world.

Samsung could pick the phone of the year right here – and it’s only March. The S8+ is a beautiful piece of tech that redefines what a phone should seem like. It also clicks all the right boxes if it comes to, coming with an attractive display, refined waterproof design, expandable storage and a nice camera setup. The size might put some off; however, others will adore the huge canvas.
