After pushing back its launch date in April due to serious reliability issues, the refined Samsung Galaxy Fold is back and finally, finally, for sale in the United States. The high-profile issues were the folding screen, which had malfunctioned when the press took off the screen protector from their control units. Some displays stopped synchronization by themselves.
In any case, the new versions added a plastic protective lip to the edges of the screen (to prevent anyone from removing the plastic cover) and have highly refined the hinge. For added security, many warnings are addressed to new buyers, especially for the foldable plastic center screen, which is more fragile than conventional glass screens.
You can buy a brand new Galaxy Fold for $1,980 (£1,800/€2,000), although some carriers also sell it at $66/month for 30-month contracts. Yes, it’s twice as expensive as the flagship Apple iPhone 11 Pro and even the Galaxy Note 10 – but at least Samsung packs a pair of Samsung Galaxy Buds in the box for good measure.
