The European Cabinet approved a new telecommunications policy on Wednesday that aims to attract 100 billion dollars investment by 2022 and create 4 million jobs (National Digital Communication Policy (NDCP) 2018).
According to the policy proposal, NDCP focuses on improving the broadband broadband penetration rate by using state-of-the-art technology such as 5G and optical fiber nationwide at affordable rates.
This project promised to rationalize the surcharge such as spectrum charges to activate the communication sector. The proposed new telecommunications policy aims to provide 50 megabits per second broadband access and 5G service and to create 40,000 new jobs by 2022.
It included provisions for adopting "optimum spectral price" to ensure sustainable and affordable access to digital communications. The high cost of spectra and associated expenses was a major concern of the telecommunications services department suffering from the debt of approximately 7.8 lakh crore.
