UMI is a very popular Chinese smartphone model. I have examined many smartphones of UMI like UMI diamond, UMI Max, etc. So you can read them in my earlier smartphone reviews. UMI is well-known for making high-end smartphones that come with the budget price.
The earlier version like UMI diamond and UMI Rome had MTK6753 chipset. However, UMI Z has Helio X27 chipset which is clearly better than the MTK6753. Not only it has a good processor, but its design is also fairly good. Although it resembles with the iPhone because of the antenna bands and comparable looking dual camera. UMI Z comes in two color variants which are Golden and Gray. Personally, I find the gray option more appealing. So, without any further wait let’s begin the UMI Z REVIEW.

UMI Z Review – Design
First thing first, the design aspect of a smartphone is equally essential. How it appears in your hand and how comfortable it’s, are the important points in choosing a smartphone. If you’re spending hundreds of bucks, then you should get the correct product. A smartphone should look appealing and at the same time should be comfortable whereas holding it in your hands. While it has a 5.5-inch display that I consider to be excellent if the bezel isn’t so large.
Umi has been obsessed with aesthetics & high quality and with Umi Z they’ve taken it to an entirely new level. The body of that smartphone has been carved from an aluminum slab making it ultra-thin, sleeker and more attractive.
This smartphone comes with a cutting edge Dual 3D design with round corners and minimal bezels with the decent screen to body ratio which appears appealing.back to menu ↑
UMI Z Review – Display
Including a display size of 5.5-inches, the UMI Z is a phablet, so the operation with only one hand is quite difficult. The IPS display has a full-HD resolution of 1920x1080pixels, and it uses the new IGZO-technology by Sharp. It secures a bright and sharp representation of all contents with a pixel density of 401ppi.
Regardless of a high display brightness, the contents are badly readable outside in shiny sunlight, as a result of the glass is reflecting too strong. However, you can check this by getting a corresponding screen protector. Dragontrail Glass protects the UMI Z.back to menu ↑
UMI Z Review – Software
The software of this smartphone is something very few of us discuss however trust me it’s one the essential key points in choosing a new smartphone. This smartphone comes with an Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) out of the box that is upgradable to Android 7.0 (Nogut). I am a massive fan of stock Android, and the UMI Z is no less, that has the stock Android interface with latest Android Nogut that makes it more of an enjoyable to explore.
Anyway, very few changes have been made to make the UI better. However, they should not have made any changes as I like the essential stock Android. That still depends on user preference; maybe you’ll like the modifications.back to menu ↑
UMI Z Review – Hardware and Performance
It has two key trading features that differentiate it from various similarly priced Chinese phones on the market. The 13Mp front camera with soft LED flash, which we’ll come onto later with its Helio X27 processor. In time several phones will adopt this chip, however, for now, the UMI Z is your only choice should you wish to use it.
This isn’t the end, UMI Z is also powered with 4 GB of RAM to make the smartphone even more very efficient and smooth. The user efficiency is very nice as the of this smartphone is superb.
The Helio X27 is a deca-core chip, whichever always sounds spectacular on paper, particularly while you’re relating it to the likes of the Snapdragon 820 and 821, that are quad-core chips. Equally essential, of course, is the technology every of these cores use and at which speed they run. This 20nm processor makes in two Cortex-A72 cores running at 2.6GHz for efficiency, and two groups of four Cortex-A53s tuned for efficiency.back to menu ↑
UMI Z Review – Camera
The front camera of Umi Z has an S5K3L8 sensor which is known for excellent resolution and clear pictures making your selfies clearer and filled with vivid natural colors, so you always look best. There’s also a front flash known as the spotlight by the manufacturers.
We have another 13MP back camera with an extra dual focus system, which uses laser & PDAF focus for fast focusing with a set of 4 LED flashlights making pictures brighter and colorful.back to menu ↑
UMI Z Review – Battery Life
The Umi Z appears with a 3780mAh battery agreed to provide a day of a lifetime. However what’s amazing this piece of the puzzle is supplied by Sony which indicates all the key features of this handset come from reputable manufacturers. Thus it remains a mystery to me how Umi keeps its pricing so low.
It could be naïve to think such a powerful device doesn’t support 4G. The Umi Z comes with dual SIM options, and each of them supports 4G LTE network, although one slot is for microSIM and the next one is for nanoSIM.back to menu ↑

According to me, the UMI Z is an excellent smartphone with lots of handy features and some of the most superior technologies that are found in costlier phones. However here we get all those features at almost half that price which is something I don’t think any of you should miss.
This phone appears with a list of desired features including a Full HD screen, deca-core processor, long lasting battery life, quite powerful camera modules, touch ID, smart audio, USB Type-C, 4G support and much more. However, all these excellent features don’t affect the pricing.
Overall this is an excellent smartphone for those who need their phone to be a whole mixture of each aspect and wish to buy a mid-range with all such features then that is your phone.
