How to Give Someone an App on iPhone or iPad as a Gift

You Need to Make a Choice

The first step is to choose an app that you think your friend will like from the iOS App Store. You can only gift paid apps, so make sure that the app you choose meets your friend’s device requirements. Look for apps that your friend has shown an interest in or that relate to their hobbies and interests.

Once you have found the perfect app, tap on it and then tap on the circle with three dots in the upper right corner. A menu will pop up giving you the option to share the app or gift it to a friend. Choose “Gift.”

Choose Your Recipient

Now you will see the “Send Gift” form, which displays the app you chose, and you can choose exactly who you want to send it to. Enter your friend’s email address in the section below. If you want to gift the app to multiple people, you can separate the email addresses with a comma.

Note that not all apps can be gifted across all countries. You can also customize the message that will be sent to your friend along with the app.

Select a Date

Now you can choose the date when you want your friend to receive the app. You can select “Today” to deliver the app immediately or pick a specific date, such as their birthday or Christmas. Simply scroll down to the bottom of the window, and then “Choose a Date.” Tap on “Today” to check today’s date or scroll to the desired date. When you’re done, tap the “Next” button.

Confirm Your Purchase

Next, choose a theme for your gift. You can select from a variety of themes depending on the occasion. Scroll through until you find the one you want and then tap “Next.”

Check carefully to make sure that you have entered the correct email address, chosen the right app, and picked the right date for delivery. Click “Buy Now” to purchase the app. You will need to enter your Apple ID and password to complete the purchase, and the cost will be charged to your account immediately, even if you are scheduling the gift for a future date.

Your friend will receive an email on the scheduled day with your message and chosen theme. They will have to click “Redeem Now” to begin the download process. Enjoy giving the gift of an app!
