Samsung’s Galaxy A53 is the company’s newest mid-range phone. Last year, the Samsung Galaxy A52 5G was one of the best phones in its class. So, can the same be said about the next person? Well, to put it simply, the A53 5G seems like a good upgrade from the A52 5G and is a great phone for its price. But there aren’t enough new features to make it worth buying if you already have an A52 5G or another good mid-range phone. Samsung just made small changes here and there, like making the battery bigger, the screen refresh rate faster, and the design different. Still, the new chip seems to help a lot in making the camera system better.
The Galaxy A53 (let’s leave out “5G” from now on to make things easier) costs $449 in the U.S. and only comes in one version: 128GB of storage and 6GB of RAM. Now, that’s not a bad combination at all. But don’t worry, if you need more space, you can add more. The design of the Samsung Galaxy A53 5G is similar to that of the Galaxy A52s 5G, and it also has some features from the new Galaxy S22 series (Review). Its design as a whole looks modern and refreshing. Still made of polycarbonate, the middle frame is wider and has flatter sides, like the Galaxy S22. The back of the Galaxy A52s 5G still has the same look.
It has a matte-finished polycarbonate back panel that feels smooth and premium and doesn’t pick up fingerprints or smudges very well. The Galaxy A53 5G’s back camera module is built into the back panel and barely sticks out. This is because this phone is thicker than its predecessor. The inserts for the camera lenses that are blacked out look very interesting. The Samsung Galaxy A53 5G has the same 6.5-inch full-HD+ Super AMOLED screen as the Galaxy A52s 5G. The flat screen is made of scratch-proof Gorilla Glass 5.
The borders on the left and right aren’t too thick, but the ones on the top and bottom are. The screen has a fingerprint reader built in. It does what you want it to do and is reliable. Since the hole for the earpiece is so small, Samsung has hidden it between the screen and the frame at the top. The Galaxy A53 5G has the same IP67 rating for dust and water resistance as the Galaxy A52s 5G.
