The HP Envy 34 looks good enough to be able to compete with other laptops. At the front, it has small bezels and a slim chassis made of recycled aluminum. At the back, it has a shining logo and hidden air vents on a gently curved piece of metal. It’s also useful. You’ll find two full-size USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports on the stand, a USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C connector, and a 3-in-1 card reader.
All of these are easy to reach. Around the back are two Thunderbolt 4 ports, four full-size USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports, an HDMI port, and a Gigabit Ethernet socket. No iMac has this kind of connectivity, and neither does the Surface Studio+ from Microsoft. The two 2W Bang & Olufsen speakers are also worth mentioning. They make loud, clear sound with a lot of detail.
This gear is great for background music with a bit of quality. If you’re working in audio apps, you’ll need something better. The quality of the build is great, and you can change the height by 60 mm and tilt it by 25 degrees. It’s not as good as the Surface’s stand, which can be turned, but it’s better than most all-in-ones. The HP is also nice on the inside.

HP Envy 34 review: Ports
Our review unit of the HP Envy 34 has a stand that can also be used as a 15-watt Qi wireless charger. This is an optional upgrade that lets you charge Qi-compatible devices like your phone without using one of the Envy’s ports. We liked how easy it was to charge my phone and wireless earbuds on the stand, but it was hard to figure out where to put the devices to get them to charge, and the charger worked better with some devices than with others.
For example, no matter how we put the iPhone SE 2022 and Galaxy S22 Ultra on the charger, they both charged right away. My (old) Galaxy S7 only charged when we put it across the stand in a horizontal position, but the iPhone 11 Pro only charged when it was placed in a vertical position.
HP Envy 34 review: Display
The 34-inch ultra-wide screen gives you a lot of space for work and play. Most of this review was written on the AIO, and we usually had three windows open at once. We didn’t have to keep switching between windows, which made my work a lot easier.
One of the brightest displays we have ever seen is this one. It’s so bright that I only turned up the brightness to 50%. During our tests, the screen’s average brightness was 417.2 nits, but the center was as bright as 492 nits. The AM271, with its average brightness of 102 nits, or the Alienware 34 monitor, with its average brightness of 230 nits, are not even close.
HP Envy 34 review: Performance
Its performance is good enough for most people, but it’s not as good as the equivalent H-series mobile CPUs, and the mobile RTX 3060 GPU isn’t as good as some other laptops, partly because the power seems to be capped at 70w (the part can go up to 80w). More annoying, though, is that it has a laptop design, so the display isn’t on the GPU bus.
We think this makes it harder to get games to run in a window at lower resolutions. The 3060 is a good GPU, but it wasn’t made to play games at 5K resolution at playable frame rates. That doesn’t mean you can’t, though, and I had a great time playing Stray at the native resolution. And you can always play games in the cloud.
HP Envy 34 review: Price
It’s not a terrible situation when it comes to creative work. There is still enough power here to do most tasks related to making content. Multitasking, working with databases, and browser-based apps all work without any problems. Any app that uses GPU acceleration gets a big boost from the graphics core. But remember that you can easily find more power elsewhere.
Even if you buy the updated Envy 34 with 12th Generation Core i7 or Core i9 processors, they won’t run at full speed all of a sudden. If you buy a traditional desktop with a Core i7 or Core i9 processor, you can easily get more speed, but a PC with a new Core i7 processor will cost at least £1,499 (not including VAT). If you add a pro-level display and a better graphics card, you’ll probably spend more than the HP’s price of £1,999 (ex VAT).

The HP Envy 34 has a great display, an impressively versatile exterior, and enough power to handle creative tasks; however, you can find better components and screen quality elsewhere, especially if you are willing to spend a bit more money. If you are looking for a creative laptop, you should look elsewhere.
