A great wired gaming mouse is the SteelSeries Rival 3. It feels great to hold, and anyone with any size hand can use a “claw grip” to reach all the buttons. The mouse is very light, and both Windows and macOS can use its software without any problems. Unfortunately, the side buttons start at the same level as the rest of the mouse. This makes it hard to press them unless your thumb is in just the right place.

Where to get SteelSeries Rival 3?
The Rival 3 is the perfect entry-level gaming mouse. It has a matte-black plastic shell and six buttons on the right side. The buttons are pretty standard. On top, there are two click panels, a scroll wheel, and a DPI preset control button. On the thumb side, there are the usual forward and back buttons. At 1.3 by 4.6 by 2.6 inches, it’s a little small for something that seems to be made for everyone, but that’s in line with how mouse design is influenced by competition right now.
Still, the side buttons are in a good spot from an ergonomic point of view. When using the claw grip, the thumb can easily reach them, but it’s easy to keep it from happening by accident. The DPI switch on top is also small enough that you don’t have to fumble around to find it.
The SteelSeries Rival 3, which weighs only 77g, is pretty light. When it comes to gaming mice, weight is definitely a matter of taste, but we wish this one was a bit heavier. The scroll wheel has a low profile and is made of rubber, but the scroll step could use a bit more resistance. This is a very small complaint, but it can be noticeable when you’re really into the game, like when you’re switching weapons and scroll past your target by accident. Other than that, the clicks feel solid and heavy, which shows how much SteelSeries cares about durability.
The Steelseries Rival 3 looks and works great for the price, except for the side buttons and the high lift-off distance. It’s well made, has a design that most people will like, and has some of the best RGB lighting at this price point.
