Even though people have different points of view on the iPhone, it is impossible to deny that Siri was instrumental in the development of voice assistants and continues to be one of the most well-liked choices available. However, it is important to keep in mind that chatbots driven by artificial intelligence, such as Bing Chat and ChatGPT, offer more extensive capabilities.
Now that we’ve established that, let’s take a look at a selected list of the greatest Siri commands that users of the iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, or HomePod may utilize. With the release of iOS 16, a number of significant commands were made available, making them relatively new and likely unfamiliar to a large number of users.
However, it is imperative that you do not overlook the instructions that are compatible with both iOS 16 and previous versions, as they may still prove to be useful and regularly used in your day-to-day interactions with Siri. It is crucial that you do not overlook these commands because they are compatible with both iOS 16 and older versions.
Best Siri Commands
Restart or Power Off Your iPhone
- “Restart iPhone”
If you’re using iOS 16 or later, you may ask Siri to “restart iPhone” or “restart phone,” and in response, Siri will check with you to make sure that restarting your device is something you really want to do. You have the option to either respond with “yes” or press the “Restart” button. The same is true for phrases such as “Power off,” “Power off iPhone,” and “power off phone.”
See What’s Possible
- “What can I do here?”
You can only learn all of the possible Siri commands for the app that is now open by using the “What can I do here?” feature, which is also exclusive to iOS 16 and subsequent versions. If you want to find out more about one of the other apps on your iPhone, you may also ask the question “What can I do with [App Name]?” In either case, if Siri is unable to locate any results, it will offer some useful system instructions as a suggestion. This command is incompatible with any iPhone model older than the XS. (Further information)
Reminders Commands
- “Remind me to pick up milk”
Can’t seem to track down a pen anywhere? You can ask Siri to keep track of critical chores and remind you about them at the optimal time by telling Siri to “keep track of them.” To get the most out of these, make sure you are familiar with the proper way to use the Reminders feature. Within the iOS Reminders app, a new reminder will be added to your default list when you ask Siri to do so.
Calendar Commands
- “What’s next?”
Make sure you don’t miss any more appointments by asking Siri to review the events in your Calendar, add new ones, or tell you what’s coming up next in your agenda. Siri will first inquire as to the timing of this event, after which it will proceed to add a new appointment to your Calendar for the specified day and time. Siri will go through your calendar to discover the next event, at which point it will announce the date, the time, and the event’s title.
Setting cooking timers
- “Hey Siri, set a timer for five minutes’
Long before the Cookie Monster found out about Siri, we were yelling at her to set oven timers while we washed marinade from our fingers.
It’s not the kind of capability that will keep Google Assistant or Alexa from sleeping at night, but if you make it part of your routine in the kitchen, you’ll find that it’s quite handy.
Instant Shazam-ing
- “Hey Siri, what’s this song?”
We still use Shazam a lot to find out what song is playing nearby, but sometimes the few seconds it takes to find and start the app is enough to miss putting a name to that tune.
This is why “add to my music” is one of our favourite Siri orders. Whether you’re driving, cooking, or just listening to the last few seconds of a radio show, Siri will quickly find the song’s information and, if you use Apple Music, add it to your collection if you say “add to my music.” Since Apple bought Shazam in 2018, it is clear that Apple now owns it.
Avoiding a soaking
- “Hey Siri, should I bring an umbrella?”
You could open your weather app to see if those clouds are really a threat, but that’s easy on a weekday morning when you’re trying to find your keys and save your burnt breakfast at the same time.
Say this order in a pleading tone, and Siri will tell you whether or not to grab the umbrella in a chirpy way that hides how disappointed she is in you as a person.
Beating indecision
- “Hey Siri, roll a six-sided die”
Our minds are often like a “spinning beach ball,” making it hard for us to make even simple choices. Paella or sushi for dinner? Netflix shows like Firefly or Narcos? Tesla Model 3 or fancy wedding?
Okay, you might not want to ask Siri about the last one, but for everything else, you can ask her to ‘flip a coin’ or ‘roll a die’. It’s so fun that we might ask her to help us write The Dice Man for the 21st century.
