iTunes lets you organize your music by the Add Album Art in iTunes, or the type of music. When you buy songs or albums from the iTunes Store, they come with album cover art. When you buy music from iTunes, you get cover art with it. But when you import your own albums, you might find that some of the covers are missing, or you might want to replace all of them with new versions.
If you add songs or albums to your library in other ways or just rip them from CDs, the artwork may be missing. Sometimes you want to choose your own cover art. In this case, you can add new album art or replace the existing art with any picture on your computer.
How to Add Album Art to iTunes in Windows
- Launch the iTunes app.
- From the top left pop-up menu, select “Music,” then “Library.”
- From your iTunes library, select and right-click on the album with the missing artwork.
- Perform a Google search for the album artwork e.g. [Artist] album cover, then drag the image into the artwork area.
- Click on “OK” to save.

In Apple Music, iTunes 12, and iTunes 11: Select File > Library > Get Album Artwork. In older versions of iTunes: Go to the Advanced menu and select Get Album Artwork. Alternatively: Download the album cover image online, right-click the song, then select Get Info > Add Artwork or go to the Artwork tab.
If the media is locally available on your machine, and you are still unable to access the Add Artwork function, start by checking the permissions. Right Click on any track and choose ‘ Show in Finder.
iTunes downloads artwork from the cloud so it can display this artwork for these tracks. If you don’t have iCloud Music Library turned on, this folder is empty. Cloud Purchases: This is artwork for items you have purchased that are still in the cloud, and that you have not downloaded.
Select the album for which you want to embed artwork. You can select multiple. If you select none, the entire collection is re-embedded, which might not be what you want. Click the new script icon in the Menu bar, then Re-Embed Album Artwork.
