Apple no longer makes Macs with an optical drive built in, but many users still use CDs, DVDs, and Blu-ray discs for work and play. And since Apple also doesn’t put eject keys on their keyboards, it’s helpful for these users to Add and Mac Eject Menu to Mac Menu Bar.
The eject icon in the menu bar only does one thing: it tells an optical drive that is connected and compatible to eject. This is especially important for people who use optical drives like the Apple SuperDrive that don’t have physical eject buttons. Steps to Add an Eject Menu to the Menu Bar
Accessing eject from the menu bar gives you more than just a quick way to get rid of a disc. For instance, if your computer has more than one optical drive, the Eject menu will list each drive so you can choose the drive that contains the disc you want to eject.
You can also use the Eject menu to get rid of a CD or DVD that doesn’t want to come out, like one that isn’t in a format that macOS can read. Because the CD or DVD never mounts (makes itself available to the computer), there is no icon to drag to the Trash and no pop-up menu to use to eject the disc.
- Open Finder.
- From the Go menu, select Go to Folder.
- In the Go to the folder box, type /System/Library/CoreServices/Menu Extras.
Remove Icons Directly From the macOS Menu Bar
- Hold down the Cmd key.
- Click and hold the menu bar icon you want to remove and drag it off of the menu bar.
- Release the mouse once you see the X symbol.
- In the Menu Extras folder, double-click Eject.menu.
- Select the Eject menu icon to display all the optical drives attached to the Mac. An Open or Close command appears, depending on each drive’s current state.
Remove Icons From the Menu Bar via System Settings
- Open the Apple menu and select System Settings.
- Select Control Center on the sidebar.
- Select the Don’t Show in Menu Bar drop-down menu option or turn off the Show in Menu Bar switch next to an item to remove it from your Mac’s menu bar.
