It’s safe to say that the video calling apps have taken over the physical company meetings and conferences. Group video call market leaders like Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and ‘Can’t See Myself on Zoom’. Among them, Zoom is probably the most-used video calling app out there due to various reasons.
The software is easy to use and available across different platforms. During a Zoom video call, if your webcam or microphone don’t work, it’s the worst thing that could happen. We shall talk about solving most of the video issues while using Zoom in this post.
Fix: ‘Can’t See Myself on Zoom’ Issue
Make sure to allow access to camera and microphone
No matter if you’re trying to use Zoom on the web, on your phone, or in your browser. You will always see that it wants to use your microphone and camera and asks for permission. If you don’t allow any of these permissions on your phone, the Zoom cloud meeting app won’t work. When you launch Zoom from the desktop app or the browser, make sure to give it these permissions so that it works as it should.
Enable “Start with Video” option
Zoom is different from a lot of other video conferencing programmes because it has a cool feature that lets you turn on or off the video feed when you start the call.
Of course, this lets you avoid making mistakes by accident. But if you didn’t know about it and had the video turned off, you might want to turn it on the next time you go on a call to make sure that your video feed is available.
Zoom app lets you check your camera settings
Check the Zoom app’s camera device option if you have a separate webcam or maybe a different webcam application for your video feed. That could be why the video feed is blank. You just need to go to the video settings and change the Camera device to something else. And that should take care of most of the problem.
Close any apps that use the camera or microphone in the background.
Sometimes, you might have other programmes running in the background that can already use your camera and microphone, so Zoom can’t get to them. If that’s the case, make sure that no other app is using the camera or microphone.
A personal note: I often have my music DAW running in the background, but it locks the audio driver, so unless I close it, I can’t really use any audio options for video conferencing unless I close it.
Update video drivers
Sometimes the app works fine, but the video driver doesn’t (rare cases). If none of the other solutions work, make sure to update the video drivers (NVIDIA or AMD) to make sure they work as they should.
Bad hardware or problems with the USB port
If your USB port doesn’t work right, Zoom might not be able to find your webcam. Sometimes, USB ports stop working all of a sudden because of a problem with the software or the hardware. If the USB is not detecting the error, you can quickly fix it by restarting your computer. Use a toothpick or any small piece of plastic to clean the USB port if something is stuck inside.

FAQ
Why is my camera showing a black screen on Zoom?
A graphics card with automatic-graphics switching could be to blame for the black screen when you share your screen (such as an Nvidia card). The Nvidia Control Panel can be found in the Windows Control Panel. Click 3D Settings Manager.
What causes black screen on camera?
If your photos suddenly showed a black screen, it’s likely that the autofocus mechanism in your camera is stuck. The problem is easy to fix. Just turn off your camera, take out the SD card, take out the battery, and then put the battery back in. Wait for the device to start up again, and then turn the power back on to the camera.
Why is my camera dark on laptop?
There are many things that can make a webcam image look dim, such as not enough light, too much reflection, dark clothing, or visual “noise” in the background. To get the most out of your live image, you can try different ways to increase the brightness of the picture.
