Apple makes a big deal about making sure your rings are closed, but sometimes we all need a little help. How To Change Calorie Goal right from your Apple Watch or iPhone, whether you’re hurt and need a day off or want to push yourself.
When you set up your Apple Watch, it automatically sets your Move goal based on information about you like your height, weight, age, and gender. The default goals for Exercise are 30 minutes and Stand is 12 hours. Before iOS 16, these rings were only available to people who had an Apple Watch.
These are good goals, but you might not be able to reach them at your current fitness level. If you’re just starting out, it’s much more helpful to set goals that you can reach. This will keep you going. If you train a lot, changing your goals can be a “hack” to help you avoid losing streaks when you’re sick or to help you safely build back up once you’ve gotten better. In either case, you should change your goals to fit the way you live.
Change Calorie Goal on Apple Watch
- Press the Home button.
- Tap the Activity app.
- Scroll to the bottom and tap Change Goals.
- Tap the plus to add calories and the minus to subtract calories from your goal, which will be displayed in the center. Tap Next when you are done.
- Next, you can change your Exercise Goal. Tap Next once you are done making changes or if you wish to keep it the same.
- Here you can change your Stand Goal, tap OK to save your changes.
Change Calorie Goal on iPhone
- Open the Activity App on your Apple Watch. The Activity App is the one with the three rings.
- Swipe up and tap “Change Goals.” It displays the Move goal. This is where you set the number of calories you want to burn daily.
- Tap the plus sign to increase the number of calories or the minus sign to decrease it.
- Once you’ve set it to the required number of calories, tap “Next.” It takes you to the Exercise goal.
- Tap the plus sign to increase the number of minutes for your daily exercise goal or the minus sign to decrease it.
- Tap “Next.” It takes you to the Stand goal.
- Tap the plus sign to increase the number of hours for your stand goal or the minus sign to decrease it.
- Tap “OK” to update all changes.
FAQs
On your iPhone, in the Health app, go to: Health Data (tab) > Activity > Active Energy > Unit > select Calories. The change will also be reflected in the Workout app and Activity app on your Apple Watch.
You can change your goals at any time. Just as your daily routine may change, so may your goals. Select the food group of the goal you would like to change. Then, tap on “Edit” in the upper right corner to choose a new goal.
A general rule is to aim to burn 400-500 calories, five days a week during your workouts. Remember, the number of calories you burn in a workout depends on your weight, sex, age and many other factors, but this number is a good starting place.
