A lot of people complain that their computers always freeze. Few things are more annoying than when your ‘computer Keeps freezes’ in the middle of a project or while you’re watching a video. Whether you have a frozen cursor or the Blue Screen of Death, you have to manually restart your computer to fix it.
Of course, that means you could lose all the work you did before the freeze. A better idea is to figure out why your computer might freeze and what you can do to stop it from happening again. You can get more help at the Microsoft Support Center.

Update your graphics driver
You might have this problem if you are using the wrong or an old graphics driver. So you should try updating your graphics driver to see if that fixes the problem. Driver Easy can update the driver for you if you don’t have the time, patience, or skills to do it yourself.
- Download and install Driver Easy.
- Run Driver Easy and click the Scan Now button. Driver Easy will then scan your computer and detect any problem drivers.
- Click Update All to automatically download and install the correct version of ALL the drivers that are missing or out of date on your system. (This requires the Pro version which comes with full support and a 30-day money back guarantee. You’ll be prompted to upgrade when you click Update All.)
- Restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
- Check to see if the computer screen freezing problem is resolved.
Reboot your computer
If the task manager is not responding, it may be worth rebooting your computer. To do this, press and hold the power button for around 10 seconds. This will force your computer to turn off. Give the computer 30 seconds and then turn the computer back on again.
Do a system restore
- On your keyboard, press the Windows logo key, copy & paste restore into the box and click Create a restore point.
- Click System Restore
- Click Next.
- Click to select the most recent time you remember this computer was working properly and click Next.
- Make sure you’ve saved your computer data and click Finish and then click Yes.

Adjust power plan settings for your hard disk
- In your preferred (chosen) power plan, click Change plan settings.
- Click Change advanced power settings.
- Double-click on Hard disk > Turn off hard disk after. Then set the value of Setting (Minutes) to Never (by clicking the down-arrow) and click OK.
Check if your computer is completely dead-locked
- Try moving the mouse pointer around the screen. If it won’t move, your computer is probably deadlocked and needs to be restarted.
- Try clicking the “Caps Lock” button on the keyboard. If the Caps Lock light is on, it’s probably a software problem that can be fixed with the Windows task manager. If the Caps Lock light doesn’t work, your computer is probably stuck and you’ll need to restart it.
Try Rebooting in Safe Mode
If your computer freezes when you turn it on, the problem might be with one of the programmes that are set to run when the computer starts up. Try turning your computer back on in “Safe Mode.” To do this, restart your computer and press the F8 key right away. You can choose Safe Mode with Networking from the list of options that appears.
In Safe Mode, your computer won’t open all of the programmes that are set to open automatically, but you can still use it as usual. If the computer can start up and work normally in safe mode, you’ll know that the problem is with the software that starts the computer.
Check your Browser’s Performance
In some situations, your browser might get stuck on a certain page. Most PC users today use browsers a lot, so when your computer seems to freeze, it may just be a single browser page. You can open Windows Task Manager, but all it will tell you is that your browser isn’t responding and you need to end the process. If you want to get more information, you can open the browser’s Task Manager.
To open the browser task manager in Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge, just press SHIFT + Esc. You have to click the menu button in Firefox and then go to More > Task Manager. If you open the browser’s task manager, you can see what processes are running and figure out why the page is freezing.

There are many things that can cause a computer to freeze. Most problems are caused by a lack of processing power, not enough space on the hard drive, the CPU getting too hot, an old operating system, problems with device drivers, or hardware problems. CCleaner Professional can help you deal with problems like these.
Why does Windows sometimes stop working
Windows can randomly freeze for a few main reasons: old drivers, malware, or not having the latest version of the operating system. Keep everything up to date and always use a good antivirus programme to try to avoid these problems.
