Trying to figure out how to Dial Extensions Automatically? If you’re like me, you probably have a lot of friends and coworkers with phone numbers that have extensions. This feature is built right into iOS, thanks to Apple, and the last update made it even easier.
We all know that before you can dial, you usually have to listen to a message or wait for the answering service to pick up. By adding a pause, the phone will have time to connect the call and then dial the extension. You could also put in a few more pauses if you really wanted to.
Dial Extensions Automatically on iPhone
- Open the Phone app and make sure you are on the Keypad screen.
- Press the original phone number you wish to dial.
- Long press on the asterisk key (*) until a comma (,) appears next to the phone number. Now, Press the extension number after the comma. If you want the pause to be longer than 2 seconds, follow this step again to add multiple commas.
- To add ‘wait-to-dial’ long-press the pound sign (#) until a semicolon (;) appears.
- Finally, tap on the green call button.
Dial Extensions Automatically On Android
- Open the Contacts app on your Android phone, then find the contact whose extension you’d like to add. The contacts list can be opened from the phone dialer.
- Tap the person’s name. On the Phone app, the contact information slides into view. On the Contacts app, the contact information page displays.
- Tap the Pencil icon.
- Tap the phone number field and place the cursor at the end of the phone number. The on-screen keyboard appears.
- Insert a single comma to the right of the phone number.
- After the comma (or pause), without leaving a space, type the extension number for the contact. For example, if the number is 01234555999 and the extension number is 255, the complete number is 01234555999,255.
- Save the contact information.
- The next time you call that contact, their extension number automatically dials when the call is answered.
How Do You Dial an Extension?
Extension dialing is a way for other staff members who use the same phone system to quickly call a coworker by just dialing his extension on their phones. If someone from outside the company knows a specific employee’s extension, she can only dial it after calling the company’s main phone number and following the instructions.
If the phrase “If you know your party’s extension, you can dial it at any time” sounds familiar, you already know how this works! You can connect extensions to other parts of your phone system, like voicemail boxes, ACD queues, and hunt groups. There are many benefits to linking extensions to these features.
For example, if you see that a coworker is on the phone, you can send a caller straight to their voicemail box. And you can send callers straight to a sales or support queue without making them go back through your attendant menu and choose the right option.
