Don’t have access to a Wi-Fi network but want how to FaceTime Without Wi–Fi on iOS device? If so, good for you! We’ll tell you everything you need to know about using FaceTime without Wi-Fi in this article.
Most of the time, a bad internet connection is to blame when FaceTime doesn’t work. By default, your device will try to find a Wi-Fi connection so that you can use FaceTime. But you can also use cellular data as a backup if you don’t have much or any internet. Let’s talk about how to make FaceTime calls work with cellular data.
Steps to FaceTime Without Wi–Fi
- Open your iPhone or iPad’s Settings iPhone Settings App Icon.
- It’s the gray gear icon on the home screen.
- Enable FaceTime if you haven’t already. If you’re new to FaceTime, scroll down and tap the FaceTime option (it has a green icon with a white camera inside) and make sure the switch is set to the On (green) position. If it’s gray or white, tap it to turn it green.
- Tap Cellular or Mobile. You’ll see one of these two options near the top of the Settings menu in the first group of options.
- Slide the “Cellular Data” or “Mobile Data” switch to the On position iPhone Switch On Icon. If the switch was already green, simply skip to the next step.
- Scroll down and slide the “FaceTime” switch to the On position iPhone Switch On Icon. If FaceTime’s switch is already green, there’s no need to make any changes. If it’s gray or white, tap it to turn it green.
- Disable Wi-Fi if necessary. If you aren’t near a Wi-Fi access point, you can skip this step. But if your phone or tablet keeps trying to connect to weak Wi-Fi networks, you’ll want to turn off Wi-Fi so it doesn’t interfere with FaceTime calls.
- Place or answer a FaceTime call. Now that you’ve set up FaceTime to work with your mobile data plan, you can use it to make video and audio calls on your iPhone or iPad.
- Since FaceTime calls can use a lot of data, try saving your FaceTime calls for Wi-Fi unless you have an unlimited data plan.
- To see how much data a FaceTime call used, open the FaceTime app, tap the small “‘” in a circle beside the call,” and find the data
How It Works
Facetime will always give Wi-Fi connections more importance than cellular data connections. If you’re connected to both, it will use Wi-Fi and leave your data alone. Facetime uses a lot of data, which you should know since it is an app for video calls.
If you have a plan that lets you use as much data as you want, you don’t really have to worry. But if your data plan has a limit, you should be careful about how much data you use. If you use too much data, your bill at the end of the month could be very high.
Facetime can’t be stopped from using Wi-Fi when one is available, even if you try. But if you are stuck somewhere without Wi-Fi, you can still use Facetime by turning on cellular data. If you go over your data limit, you can turn off your cellular data and go somewhere with Wi-Fi to keep talking on Facetime.
