Microsoft OneNote tags add a visual marker to your notes to indicate the type of information, its relationship to a project, and whether it’s a task at hand. Some of the notes made are easy to organize due to the OneNote structure. Other aspects, such as your comments on a topic and the ideas that come up up during brainstorming, they are less structured and can be improved with the right tag.

How to Use and manage tags in Microsoft OneNote

To tag in OneNote, select the notebook page content you want to tag.

Click on the “Home”On the ribbon and then the“ More ” tab button, which looks like an arrow pointing down with a small line above it, in the “Tags” scroll box under “Tags” button group.

Then scroll through the list of tags and click on one to attach it to the selected content.

To find tags in OneNote, click “Find tags” button in the “Tags” group in the “Home”Ribbon guide.

To turn the visibility of the “Tags” panel on and off, click on “Find Tags” button in the “Tags” group in the “Home”Ribbon guide.

If you want to change the way tags in OneNote are grouped and displayed in the “Tags” panel, use the “Group tags by:” drop-down list in the “Tags” panel to select “Tag name”, “Section”, Title , ”“ Date ” and“ Note text ”.

To display only tags not marked as complete, select the “Show only unmarked items” checkbox.

To close the “Tags” panel, click on the “X” in the upper right corner of the panel.

To remove tags in OneNote, select the tagged content on the page.

Then click on the “More” button button in the “Tags” scroll box under “Tags” button ribbon group.

Then select “Remove tag”.

To customize tags in OneNote or create your own custom tags, click the “More” button button in the “Tags” scroll box under “Tags” button ribbon group.

Then select “Customize tags…” to open the “Customize tags” dialog box.

To change the order in which NoteNote tags are shown in the “Tags” scroll box, select a tag in the “Customize Tags” dialog box.

Then click on the “Up”Or down arrow” to move the tag in the list.

To delete a tag from the list, click on the “Remove” button button, which looks like an “X”.

To modify an existing tag, click or tap to select it.

Then click “Modify Tag..” button at the bottom of the dialog to open the “Modify Tag” dialog.

Then make the desired changes using the drop-down menus available. These drop-down menus let you change the brand name, brand symbol, font color, or add a highlight.

To accept the changes made, click “OK”.

To create new tags in OneNote, click “New tag…” button at the bottom of the “Custom Tags” dialog box to open the “New Tag” dialog box.

Then add a name, symbol, font color and accent color and click “OK”.

The new tag immediately appears in your tag list and is available to tag content.
