Google Docs is an online tool from Google for working with words. You can use it to make new Word documents and Put Image or Text On Top of Another Image. It also lets you download your documents in different formats, such as PDF, DOC, ODT, RTF, EPUB, etc. When editing or making a document, we sometimes need to put images next to each other or in groups.
If you want to add a drawing to a Google Docs file, you can use the built-in Drawing tool. Once you choose the Drawing tool from the Insert menu, you can easily add an image, shape, or text to another image and then insert your creation into your document.
Users who don’t know how to layer and group images in Google Docs may have to use third-party software to do so. In this article, we’ll show you how easy it is to put images on top of each other and group them in Google Docs.

Using Text Wrapping
Before, Google Docs only had three options for how to wrap text around images: inline, wrap, and break text. Google announced two more ways to align text in May 2021. These were behind the text and in front of the text. That means you can now put text in front of or behind an image.
Behind Text: When Behind text is chosen, the picture will show up behind the text. It can be used in two ways. Just before the image, you can start writing the text. Then it will keep happening on the image instead of moving it.
In front of text: In this mode, the picture will be over the text. You can use it to hide the text under the image or add text to the image by making the image less transparent.
Using Google Drawing
There’s another way to put text over an image in Google Docs if the first way doesn’t work for you. In this method, we’ll use Google Drawing, which is a part of Google Docs.
- Launch the web version of Google Docs and open the document
- Click on Insert at the top followed by Drawing > New.
- The Drawing pop-up window will open. Click on the Image button at the top to add your image. You can add from the computer, URL, Google Drive, or search on the web.
- Once the image appears in the Drawing window, click on the Text box button. Then draw the text box on the image using the mouse and enter the required text.
How to Use Google Docs?
The best part about using Google Docs is that you can continue working on it if you don’t have an internet connection. You can create, edit, and save all your work offline and this will automatically sync to your account once you get back online. This is useful when you don’t have an internet connection or are working while commuting or traveling.
- Go to the File menu.
- Scroll down to see the Version History option. Expand it and click on ‘See version history‘. (Keyboard shortcut: ctrl +alt+ shift+h)
- On the right-hand side, you can see the entire history of your document and what edits have been made, when and by whom. Clicking on any version will show you the document with changes highlighted in different colors accounting for different people.
- You can restore any document version of your Google Doc by selecting the desired version and clicking the Restore This Version button.
