You expect a response when you See if Someone Read Your Text Message because most communications are dialogue. But not everyone who gets a message replies when they see it. For example, you might be typing a message and getting ready to send it when your child calls or another alert comes in. You can drop that message at that point.
Even though this isn’t true for everyone, many people don’t answer their text messages. So, you want to know whether or not the person has read your message. In the sections that follow, we’ll talk about how to tell if someone read your text messages or chats on messaging apps.
How to See if Someone Read Your Text Message on Android
- Open the Android Messages app. It’s a blue icon with a white chat bubble. Android Messages is the official Android texting app and comes preinstalled on most non-Samsung Androids. If you have a different texting app, you can download Android Messages from the Google Play Store.
- Tap the three-dot menu ⋮. It’s at the top-right corner of the app.
- Tap Settings on the menu. This opens your Settings menu.
- Tap Chat features on the Settings menu. Now you’ll see some settings that may or may not be turned on.
- Toggle “Enable chat features” to the On position
- After a few moments, the switch will turn green to indicate that new features are enabled.
- Toggle “Send read receipts” to the On position
- When this switch is on, you’ll be able to see when another Android Messages user (who has also enabled read receipts) has read your text message.
- Send a text message while connected to the internet. When your friend (who also turned on read receipts) reads your message, you’ll see the word “Read” and a time stamp beneath it. Your friend will see a similar thing when you’ve read their message.
See if Someone Read Your Text Message on iPhone and ipad
- Make sure the person you’re texting is also using iMessages. This is the only way you’ll know if they’ve read your message.
- Turn on read receipts. As long as you and your contact both have enabled this feature, you’ll be able to see when you’ve read each others’ messages. If only you have it on, they’ll see when you read their messages, but you won’t know when they read yours. Here’s how to turn on read receipts:
- Connect to the internet. iMessages are sent over the internet, so make sure you’re connected to Wi-Fi or your mobile network. If you’re not online, your message will be sent as a regular SMS and you won’t know when it’s been read.
- Open Messages. It’s a green and white chat bubble icon typically at the bottom of the home screen.
- Write or reply to a message. Make sure you see “iMessage” in the typing area. This means you’re connected to the internet and the person you’re writing can receive iMessages.
- Send the message. When you send an iMessage, you’ll see the word “Delivered” below when the message has been sent.
- Wait for a read receipt. If the recipient has read receipts on, you’ll see “Read” below the message.
FAQs
If your message has been opened, the word ‘Seen’ will appear beneath the message. If you’re in a conversation with multiple people, then an eye icon and the Instagram name of the person who has seen your message appear. The recipient may have turned read receipts off if you don’t see the ‘Seen’ text or the eye icon.
For green messages, the texts that are sent are compatible with a wider range of phones and receiving services than blue iMessage texts. Since Android and other carriers operate within the SMS and MMS standards of text communication, these green texts are more versatile in who they can reach with their texts.
A green bubble could also indicate that someone blocked you, especially when the bubbles have always been blue. When blocking occurs, iMessage sends your text, but the recipient never receives it. Your old messages remain blue, but the latest texts you send after they’ve blocked you turn green.
