You can Set Password on iWork Files on your iPad or iPhone, then open it on your Mac from iCloud or the native Mac OS X app, and it will ask you for a password. Pages, Numbers, and Keynote are all part of the iWork suite of productivity apps. Each of these apps lets users protect documents with a password.
In practise, this means that a document made in iWork on iOS, Mac OS X, or iCloud can be safely locked with built-in encryption, and the document can’t be opened or viewed on any other device without the password. This works both ways, of course. One feature of the update was the ability to protect certain documents with a password. By adding a password to a document, sensitive information can only be seen by the people who should be able to see it.
How to Set Password on iWork Files
- Open the file you want to set and require a password for – this can either be an existing file, or a new file that is otherwise blank
- Pull down the “File” menu and choose “Set Password”
- Enter the desired password and set a hint if desired
- Save the file as usual from the iWork app
iWork Is Free
If you can use Office for free at school or work, this might not be a big deal, but for freelancers, hobbyists, and other people who use these kinds of apps often, the price could be a big deal. Microsoft’s apps are sometimes free, but they often have restrictions. For example, if you put Microsoft Word on your Mac, you can’t change or make new documents; you can only read the ones that are already there. To get access to everything, you need a paid subscription to Office 365, which starts at $70 per year.
A subscription to Office 365 gives you access to Outlook, Publisher, and Access, among other apps. But these niche apps aren’t useful for most people anyway. On the other hand, the iWork suite is free and can be used on any Apple device without any limits. There are no limits, and Apple even lets people with older Apple products download iWork for free.
FAQs
To password-protect your PDF documents, you will need Adobe Reader Pro or Adobe Acrobat. The free version of Adobe Reader does not have the necessary features to encrypt a PDF document.
Although Windows 10 doesn’t have the option to protect folders and files with a password, it doesn’t mean your data isn’t secure. One of the reasons why you can’t apply a password to a folder is that your account is already protected from unauthorized access with a password (and even encryption if you use BitLocker).
An Owner Password, Master Password, or Permissions Password is what you require in order to copy, edit, or print a PDF document. Without an Owner Password, you can’t make changes within the PDF file. If you’ve got the Owner Password, you’ll be able to edit, print, change, or copy data from the PDF document.
You can lock a PDF or image so that it can’t be edited or deleted. If you own a locked document, you can edit the document after unlocking it. Others can change the document’s contents only by creating a duplicate of the document and editing the duplicate. In the Preview app on your Mac, open a PDF or image.
