Do you like using full-screen mode on your new M1-based MacBook Pro but hate that the menu bar disappears unless you move the show Mac dock in full screen? Apple has finally added a setting to macOS 12 Monterey that makes the menu bar always visible. Open System Preferences, click Dock & Menu Bar, and uncheck “Automatically hide and show the menu bar in full screen.”
The change won’t affect apps that are already in full-screen mode until you change the state of their windows again or close and relaunch them. Some apps, like Apple’s Photos, need to be updated so that you don’t have to move your mouse to the top of the window to see toolbars or other controls.

- Select the category labeled Dock & Menu Bar.
- Uncheck the box next to Automatically hide and show the menu bar in full scree

To use the quick-access menu of an item: Control-click on the item or press and hold it for a while to bring up the shortcut menu. Each item has a different layout. You can hide, force quit an app, and do other things from here.
To add something to the Dock, open Finder, find the app, file, or folder you want to add, and then drag the app to the left side of the line that separates the recently used apps and the file or folder to the right side of the line that separates the recently used apps. You can use the way to add your Downloads that have disappeared from Dock.
Or, open an app from the Launchpad to make it automatically appear in the Dock, then control-click the icon and choose Option > Keep in Dock from the shortcut menu.
To remove something from the Dock, click and drag the icon far away from the Dock until you see “Remove,” then let go of the pointer. Or, you can control-click the item to bring up a menu, then choose Option > Remove from Dock from the menu.
What is Mac dock
There are lines between the Dock’s two or three main parts. In standard orientation, the Dock is at the bottom of the screen and shows apps that you have added and apps that you are using. You can also add files or folders to the right side of the Dock. The Dock can also show you recently used apps. Here is a picture of each kind of thing that can be in the Dock.
The apps that were in the Dock when you set up your Mac or that you added are on the left. (See below to learn how to put or take things off the Dock.) There’s a divider to the right of this section, where you can see four apps. Then there’s another line, after which you can see a file, a folder, and a window that’s been shrunk down. After that, you can see the Trash.
If you choose to show recently used apps in the Dock, they appear to the right of the first line that divides the apps. To do this, go to System Preferences > Dock & Menu Bar and check the box next to Show recent applications in the Dock. Unless you choose this, there will only be one separator.
