The Galaxy S22 Ultra’s cameras have undergone the most significant improvements, as Samsung aims to surpass the iPhone 13 Pro Max and Google Pixel 6 Pro as the greatest camera phone with a variety of improvements. A larger primary sensor for better low-light shots, an AI-enhanced portrait mode, and a new Super Clear lens are a few of these.
Samsung’s Galaxy S22 Ultra has just raised the bar for display quality. As before, you get a dynamic 120Hz refresh rate, which during our hands-on time allowed for fluid scrolling. Additionally, gamers should enjoy the 240Hz touch sampling rate. There are two noteworthy display improvements, though. The screen’s 1,750 nit peak brightness makes it maybe the brightest one we’ve ever seen. The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra has top-notch cameras.
The range of focal lengths is one of the best you can find on a phone, and they are all autofocus-enabled. The sensor discussion will be omitted because it is better covered in our review. The primary camera on the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is powerful and vibrant. The 70mm focal length of the 3x camera makes it ideal for isolating distant yet manageable things. The output is contrast and vibrant, and the main camera’s great dynamic range is carried over as well.
In general, calls were of great quality. Our caller could be heard perfectly, and they confirmed that we were also audible. We were using T-Mobile in the US, and the 5G performance fluctuated from being outstanding and average depending on how close we were to a quality 5G tower. There is also a free software called Expert Raw that allows you to capture raw photographs and provides you access to all the professional shooting options (ISO, white balance, focus, and shutter speed). We then altered these raw images on our phones using Adobe’s Lightroom program.
The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra runs One UI 4.1, the most recent version of Samsung’s Android interface software, in addition to being an Android 12 device and one of the greatest Android devices available. Like most Android overlays, this one duplicates some utilities, like the web browser and photos apps, and adds a tone of clever software touches and practical tools, like Samsung’s new Wallet, that should improve the Android experience instead of serving as a primary means of imposing a custom design aesthetic on top of pure Android. The Galaxy S22 Ultra has a large 5,000mAh battery and wireless charging, just like the Galaxy S21 Ultra. The battery performed admirably in our tests, lasting around from 7 am to 11 pm, although not much longer (this was the same for mid-range and high-resolution screen settings).
