The Asus TUF Gaming A15 was launched a few years ago, but Asus has not been content with the most affordable gaming notebooks and continues to improve the design and enhance the internals. This 2022 model received faster components and more ambitious display options in a lighter case than its predecessor. The Asus TUF series usually doesn’t shy away from military-inspired designs, and that remains true.Asus The moulded lid of the TUF Gaming A15 appears to be riveted in place and you can find practical ventilated edges alongside numerous TUF logos.
Military design may be immature, but Asus’ design isn’t bad – most of the TUF’s physical connections are on the left side; the TUF has two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C ports, one of which is DisplayPort compatible. A full-size USB 3.2 Gen 1 port, HDMI output, audio and Ethernet jacks are also located on the left edge. This is not a rugged laptop that you wouldn’t have to worry about dropping from a high place, but it is a gaming laptop that you could happily take in a backpack to a friend’s house or LAN party. Some ultra-thin and lightweight gaming laptops are so delicate that you may be afraid to take them out of the house, but not the Asus TUF A15.
The Asus TUF A15 also comes with a sticker that can be used to cover the laptop, giving gamers added confidence. The chassis comes in two colours: Fortress Gray (the colour of the review model pictured) and Bonfire Black. Open the laptop and there are even more design choices to appeal to gamers. The keys have almost mandatory RGB lighting, and the all-important WASD keys are further emphasised with translucent colouring, making you suspect that this is a gaming laptop.
This is combined with an Nvidia RTX 2060 GPU. This is also not a flagship GPU, but its 1080p performance is superb, making it a great choice for this kind of gaming laptop – it’s one of Nvidia’s more affordable GPUs, but it performs very well, including support for the latest ray tracing. It also comes with 6GB of GDDR6 memory, making it a smart choice for notebooks that need to keep costs down. As you can see from the benchmark, the graphically demanding Metro Exodus runs at 45fps (frames per second) on Ultra. With a little tweaking, it can exceed the magic 60fps and still look good to play.
