The Sony HT-S100F is a so-so sounding soundbar that is quite lacking in bass. This 2.0 setup does not have a dedicated wireless sub and struggles to produce bass frequencies. On the upside, it has very clear and accurate reproduction of voices. The bar can also be made much louder. Unfortunately, the lack of height-channel and Atmos support means that although it is always-connected surround sound, it does not provide a realistic experience. Also, the soundstage is not very wide and feels narrower than the bar itself. It is also disappointing that DTS is not supported, and there is no Full HDMI In input.
The Sony S100F has a fairly neutral but slightly muddy sound profile, suitable for dialogue-oriented content. It lacks bass and is not good at reproducing deep rumble and punchy bass, affecting performance in bass-heavy music genres and movies. On the positive side, it can be quite loud, which should satisfy most people. It also performs quite well at maximum volume, and the overall build quality is decent. However, the lack of support for high channel and Atmos content means that this bar is probably not the best choice for watching movies.
The sound profile is fairly neutral, albeit slightly muddy, and voice reproduction is generally accurate. It can also be quite loud, and the Dialogue Enhancement feature provides an even better listening experience and makes dialogue in films clearer. Furthermore, Bluetooth support allows you to stream content from your smartphone wirelessly.
The HT S100F has a very simple exterior design. The front is covered by a metal grille, while the sides stop in the middle. The top of the unit is made of textured material, with the Sony logo on the left side and the controls of the unit in the centre. On the back there is an HDMI output, optical input and USB input.
The soundbar itself is relatively small, measuring approximately 37.8 x 14.7 x 9.2 in, so you won’t have any trouble finding space for it. Other than that, there isn’t much else to say about the appearance of this soundbar. It’s slim, compact and without any noticeable fancy decorations. In other words, if you’re looking for something that blends in rather than drawing attention to itself, this would be a good soundbar to consider. The HT-S100F is also not suitable for watching movies, as it doesn’t deliver the power and punch of heavy bass, and it doesn’t support DTS either, which is a shame, as the HT-S100F’s sound is very good, but it’s not as good as the HT-S100F’s. On that note, you can use the ‘Voice’ mode to hear movie dialogue clearly.
