The Logitech C270 HD streams and records at 720p/30fps. The lens is made of plastic rather than glass and still produces a relatively clear image. However, it cannot compare to the quality of a 1080p webcam, and you should have realistic expectations about the type of images a 720p webcam can produce. For general Zoom meetings, keeping in touch with family and friends, or allowing children to participate in distance learning, this camera is sufficient. However, the low resolution means that there is a quality difference in image clarity and sharpness compared to webcams with higher resolutions. Furthermore, the Logitech C270 HD cannot reproduce the range of colours found in your environment. Instead, colours are weak and even vibrant colours seem rather washed out.
The webcam is fixed focus, not autofocus. Furthermore, it does not include many of the features found on other Logitech webcams, such as pan, tilt and zoom. It should also be noted that the camera cannot be rotated from landscape to portrait orientation and the viewing angle is fixed at 60 degrees. For many people, however, these features are not necessary. The Logitech C270 webcam has a fairly traditional webcam design. It measures 2.9 inches high, 2.6 inches deep, and 1.3 inches wide.At 2.65 ounces, the webcam is super lightweight and does not feel or look bulky.
Unsurprisingly, this is an all-plastic webcam. The lens cover is also plastic rather than glass, so the image is not quite as sharp and you should be aware that scratches and scuffs will further degrade the quality. The lenses are very small and are fairly well embedded in the camera, so it would be very unlucky for something to get inside and cause damage.
The C270 HD is compact, has a two-tone design and can be adjusted vertically. The universal monitor mount is similar to those used on other webcams and should attach to almost any monitor. Rubber inserts ensure that the webcam will not scratch whatever it is connected to.
When the Logitech C270 HD webcam was connected to a Windows 10 computer, it was recognised immediately. The operating system automatically started downloading and installing the appropriate drivers. Using the camera app, the webcam could be operated and controlled without any additional configuration. However, after the driver installation was complete and the webcam was ready for use, we also checked if any other software was installed during this process. We found that Windows 10 automatically installed an app called Logitech Camera Settings.
