All new 4k TVs have a smart platform built in. Some manufacturers choose to use their own platforms, while others like to add third-party options like Google TV, Android, or Roku. No matter what, there are a lot of apps to choose from, and the most popular ones are available on almost every platform.
The best smart platform depends on which smart operating system (OS) you like to use the most, and there’s no one solution that works for everyone. Smart TV systems are taken into account in our TV reviews, but we think picture quality for the price is usually more important when buying a new TV.
That’s because a good streaming device, most of which cost less than $50, can always “replace” the TV’s built-in system. The only exception is for budget TVs, where the cost of the streaming device could be a big chunk of the total price. For this list, unlike our main list of the best TVs, we gave budget models with smart TV systems more weight than those without.
If you’d rather choose for yourself, here is a list of all the smart TVs we’ve reviewed and what we thought of them. Don’t let the details distract you too much. Even though no TV is perfect, most are good enough to please almost everyone, and the differences are often hard to spot unless you look for them.

The LG NANO90 2021 is a good overall 4k TV. It’s at the top of LG’s mid-range NanoCell lineup and is a slight improvement over the LG NANO90 2020. It uses a version of Samsung’s smart interface called Tizen OS that is a little bit simpler and has fewer animations overall. But it’s still very easy to use, and it has a huge number of apps for streaming. It has bad viewing angles, so it’s not the best choice for a wide seating arrangement. It also doesn’t support HDR very well, since it doesn’t have local dimming and has a low peak brightness when watching HDR content.

It has a good response time, but some gamers may find that the input lag is too high. As you might expect from a TV in this price range, it doesn’t have many extra features and doesn’t work with HDR.
