Everyone has or wants to have earphones these days – TWS earphones are fully wireless, flexible and convenient. Such TWS earphones are now available from leading audio manufacturer JBL, which has renewed the Tune 120 with higher functionality and battery life and launched it as the Tune 125. We’ve had a chance to try them out and here’s our report on them.
The earphones have a minimalist design with a half-matt, half-glossy texture that feels solidly built. There is a JBL logo and LED indicator in the centre of each earphone, where music and call controls are also present. The earphones are also magnetic and snap into the socket inside the charging case.
The buds are also angled to fit securely in the ear. In our use, we had no problems with fit. Depending on the size of your ear hole, we recommend using the ear tips provided. Due to their shape, they protrude slightly from the ear.
The list of features offered by the JBL Tune 125TWS is fairly short: apart from a fast Google pair and support for mono mode, there really isn’t much to talk about. Even the controls are painfully basic, ranging from playing music, answering calls and invoking voice assistants (such as Siri or Google Assistant).
There are no volume controls at all. And this is where it all ends. There is no companion app support, no EQ profiles, no volume controls, no active noise cancelling, no ambient sound mode. Thanks to the in-ear seals, the JBL Tune 125TWS do a good job of blocking background noise. They can still let some noise through, but it is not obnoxiously loud.
They are lightweight, easy to carry and feel reasonably well made. They don’t block out the sound of bus or plane engines, but you shouldn’t hear much chatter from other commuters. Unfortunately, the controls do not support on-the-fly volume adjustment and the deep ear fit may not fit all listeners. However, there is no standby mode to prolong battery life and no multi-device pairing capability. In addition, wireless latency is significant on PCs, which can be a concern when watching videos.
