The Marshall Emberton Bluetooth speaker almost looks like a gift to give to someone when you can’t afford the “real” model. It’s practically a scaled-down version of a Marshall guitar amp, and that instantly makes it look stylish and cool. While many Bluetooth speakers in this price range come with a lot of features, the Marshall Emberton is pretty basic. It’s a pretty rugged and highly portable speaker that you can just slip into your pocket and take with you wherever you go. It weighs only 0.7 kg and is small enough to hold in one hand.
It’s also IPX7 waterproof, so you don’t have to worry about this waterproof speaker falling into the pool or getting wet. While the Marshall Emberton looks good and has the basic features, it lacks some important features that we usually expect. These include a microphone for taking calls through the speaker and – relatedly – the lack of voice assistant support, although the latter is not something we would necessarily expect in a portable speaker. There’s also no app support, so you can’t adjust the equalizer like you can with many other Bluetooth speakers. It doesn’t even have a 3.5 mm AUX input.
As for the design, we can’t fault the Marshall Emberton. It really looks like a mini version of a Marshall amplifier, which means it will look great on a desk, in the living room, or anywhere else. On the top of the speaker is a sort of gold four-directional joystick, embedded to look suitably stylish. It not only serves as a power button, but also allows you to adjust the volume and skip tracks. A red glowing light indicates the remaining battery life, while a discreetly placed Bluetooth pairing button is also present. It’s all well designed and looks attractive.
