Samsung uses the MediaTek Dimensity 700 5G SoC in the Galaxy A22 5G. This is not a particularly exciting chip, given that the Poco M3 Pro and Realme 8 5G also use it and are priced much lower. The Galaxy A22 5G has Bluetooth 5 and dual-band Wi-Fi ac, with the usual sensors and a satellite navigation system; Samsung Pay Mini is also supported. The phone has a 5,000mAh battery and should easily run for at least a full day.
The Samsung Galaxy A22 5G is powered by One UI Core 3.1 based on Android 11. This is a leaner version of Samsung’s standard One UI skin used on more budget-minded phones, so it is a bit odd to see it on this model. The latest version has almost all of the features one might need for everyday use, but certain things you might be familiar with on previous Samsung phones, such as Bixby, Samsung Knox, Easy Mode, etc. are absent. Android Security was a bit out of date on my unit, with only the August 2021 patch applied. Also, some UI features, such as the edge panel, which is enabled by default on most Samsung phones, must be manually enabled if you want to use them.
As a phone for the average user, there is little to fault the Galaxy A22 5G. The phone offers solid build quality, a good design, and a nice display. It also has a good battery life, and the camera has good daytime performance, as well as a night mode that allows you to take pictures in low light.
In addition, it supports 5G and has enough power to handle everyday apps — assuming, of course, that you don’t run too many graphics-intensive games. Despite the many options in this segment, the Galaxy A22 5G has managed to emerge as a good choice in the under Rs. 20,000 segment of the market. If you are looking for a new 5G phone in this price range, especially one from Samsung’s stable, this is definitely the device for you.
Secondly, one of the main attractions of Samsung’s latest smartphones is the fact that they offer excellent performance for most everyday tasks at an affordable price point. This is made possible by Samsung’s use of a MediaTek Dimensity 700 chip under the hood, which provides above-standard performance if you are not a heavy gamer. This octa-core chip features a mix of two powerful Arm Cortex-A76 “Big” cores clocked at 2.2GHz and six ARM Cortex-A55 cores clocked up to 2GHz. The chipset is based on a 7nm manufacturing process. The chipset is paired with up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage for enhanced performance.
The Samsung Galaxy A22 5G, like the Samsung Galaxy A32 5G, is powered by a high capacity (very common these days) 5000mAh battery; unlike the Galaxy A32 5G, it of course also pushes a Full HD display.
