The SteelSeries Apex Pro is an excellent keyboard for gamers, but it is also quite versatile. It has a unique setting that allows you to increase or decrease actuation force by changing the pre-travel distance required to enter keystrokes. Lowering it will improve game response, while raising it will reduce typos and mis-typing when entering text. The keyboard is very well made, has dedicated media keys, and comes with a nice magnetic wrist rest.
The SteelSeries Apex Pro is an excellent gaming keyboard. It is responsive and allows you to set the pre-travel distance of the keys to your preference. It is also very well built and fully customizable within its excellent software. The backlight is great for gaming in dark areas.
This keyboard also supports 104-key rollover and 100% anti-ghosting, so you can press 104 keys at once and they will all register. There is little reason (or physical ability) to hit 104 keys at once, but just hitting as many keys as possible in an online N-key rollover test proved that at least 32 keys can be registered simultaneously.
As one would expect from a mechanical keyboard, the Apex Pro connects to a PC via the included USB Type-A cable. What was more surprising was the cable management mechanism. A long groove on the back of the keyboard allows the keyboard’s cables to be tucked in and extended outward from three different locations, keeping them neat and tidy whether the PC’s ports are on the right, left, or center of the keyboard. However, the cable is about 1.5 m long, and we wish we had more space for it. There are also three rubber pads on the bottom to hold the keyboard in place on the desk.
The Apex Pro is also suitable for office use. Its ergonomic design and wrist rest are comfortable. It also does not make noise when typing. The Apex Pro is an ideal keyboard for programming. Typing is comfortable and you can even set the pre-travel distance for each key. This means you can find your preferred setting and reduce typing errors. You can also program all keys and customize the keyboard within the software.
