You get a lot of watch for your money with the Amazfit GTR 2. It looks good, does a good job of tracking fitness, and now has two smart assistants and a music player to help it do more than just track steps and sleep. It also has a longer battery life than similar phones that cost about the same. It’s not perfect, and the sports tracking is only useful for people who don’t work out very often. Check it out if you like the idea of a smartwatch that looks good and does the basics well.
The first Amazfit GTS was square and looked a lot like the Apple Watch. The Amazfit GTR 2 is round and doesn’t look as much like the Apple Watch. The screen is 1.39 inches and has a resolution of 454 x 454 pixels. It is covered in 3D glass.
The Amazfit GTR 2 has two buttons on the right side. The top button turns on the screen and takes you back to the home screen. If you press it twice, the main menu will also appear. The bottom button takes you right to the settings for your activities. Out of the box, the Amazfit 2’s screen turns off after a few seconds of inactivity. However, you can change the settings to keep the screen on all the time.
Once the watch is on, you use the touch screen to move around. Most of the time, this works well, but it can be hard to tap and swipe while activity tracking. As you might expect from a watch with a 326ppi resolution, the numbers, letters, and colours are bright, and there is no lag time when you scroll through menus.
The menus on the Amazfit GTR 2 can be accessed by swiping up and down as well as left and right, which took some time to get used to. Even with the strap tightened for exercise, the Amazfit GTR 2 Sport is light and easy to wear.
As with all Amazfit watches, you need to download the Zepp app, add your device to it, and sync it over Bluetooth. At first, it may take some time, but once it’s set up, everything runs smoothly. You can change the brightness of the screen and choose an activity right from the watch’s screen, but some settings can only be accessed and changed through the app.
The number of people who depend too much on the app has gone down a lot since the last GTR. After the initial setup, you mostly use it to add more watch faces, set fitness goals, get daily, weekly, and monthly fitness reports, and manage alerts and notifications.
