An entry-level gaming keyboard with rubber dome switches is the SteelSeries Apex 3 TKL. Since it lacks a numpad, it is a scaled-down version of the SteelSeries Apex 3 and one of the only non-mechanical gaming keyboards available in a TenKeyLess size, giving you more room on your desk to manoeuvre your mouse.
You shouldn’t have to be concerned about it becoming damaged if you spill your drink because it is confirmed to be IP32 rated, which means it is resistant to some liquid. The new SteelSeries GG software allows you to macro-program all of the keys, and it features RGB backlighting, but since the keys aren’t separately lighted, there are only eight customisable zones.
The plastic construction is quite light. It’s a little too light for its own good, weighing only 1.41 pounds (639 g), since its little, ten-keyless frame periodically moved while in use on my desk. On the underside, there are tunnels for cable routing. Additionally, the Apex 3 includes two flip-up feet on the bottom that you may use to adjust the angle at which you are typing.
At first, it upset me a little that the Apex 3 didn’t have a detachable cable, but it’s possible that this is because the keyboard is IP32 water-resistant and a removable cable may be another avenue for water to enter. We have specific media keys here, which is different from a lot of gaming keyboards.
They are a little tricky to use, but they are an improvement over nothing. A little black square that controls your media is located above the volume wheel on the top right of the keyboard. One press of the square will pause your media; two presses will skip a track; and three presses will return you to the track you were on before.
The Apex 3 TKL keyboard has eight customizable RGB illumination zones, and it responds to game events, social media like Discord, and even when the hardware is dormant (should players leave their gaming PCs on at all times).
The software used to manage RGB keyboards can occasionally be the largest issue, but that is not the case here. SteelSeries GG users may share moments and more directly from one app thanks to the software’s simplicity of use and intuitiveness. It also offers additional customization options than simply the usual RGB ones.
Overall, the Apex 3 TKL keyboard stands out for its form factor, key design, robust construction, customization options, and much more, making it one of the best gaming keyboards available. For any casual or ordinary gamer looking to upgrade their setup, this keyboard shows to be a solid investment at a fair price.
