The GameSir VX2 AimSwitch is the most recent addition to the series. It is a boon for any console player who has resented their mouse and keyboard-using PC brethren, thanks in part to IndieGoGo funding. It can also be used on a PC, though unless you are looking for ants, that kind of defeats the purpose. The kit comes with a chunky mini keyboard and a gaming mouse and is compatible with the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. It is intended to provide you with greater accuracy than a standard controller could, giving you a (theoretical) advantage over the competition. Who knows, you might be kicked out of the Overwatch League in a few months for expressing an opposing viewpoint.
The VX2 AimSwitch is not the first attempt at a multi-system controller peripheral, but it is certainly one of the most visually appealing. It accomplishes this by juxtaposing the angularity of the keycaps with the base’s smooth, curved lines. It then includes a plethora of small visual details that enhance the overall attractiveness of the package. The space grey base is broken up by a thin silver line that encircles the keys, which are complemented by angular texture on the WASD caps. This is then amplified when you activate the RGB effects, which are individually programmable for each of its keys.
[content-egg-block template=offers_logo hide=price]The keypad’s backplate is made of extremely durable and damage-resistant aluminum, while the rest is made of plastic. The keypad looks completely premium and is a joy to use as a result of this and the other design choices mentioned. Its small form factor (240mm x 162mm x 50mm) and light weight of 530 grams make it extremely portable and capable of wirelessly controlling multiple different game systems. The connections and battery life are clearly marked on the handy little status LED screen located above the keys.
The wrist rest is not detachable, as it was in the previous AimSwitch model, but it is reasonably sized and downward sloping, making the keypad very comfortable to use. However, people with larger hands or those who use a claw grip may find it insufficiently long to rest their palm on. While this is true, the keypad is still fully functional with your palm resting on the table due to the fairly optimal keypad angle.
Because it is all about gaming, the VX2 AimSwitch keypad has the essential 36 keys found on the left side of a full keyboard. The only difference between them is the size of the letters T and G, as well as the F5 and spacebar buttons. Some special functions, such as page up and page down, as well as insert and delete, have been relocated to keys on the right edge of the keyboard to be used in conjunction with the function key.
