The GoPro Hero 10 Black is the latest action camera from the brand that has become synonymous with the category. Its new GP2 processor makes it the most powerful and sophisticated version yet. Still, it is not a major upgrade compared to its predecessor, the Hero 9 Black. The latest version also features new frame rates and resolutions for recording, with the ability to shoot 4K/120p and 2.7K/240p slow motion, making it not only fun but also a novelty.
The Hero 10 Black is based on the same 23MP 1/2.3-inch sensor as its predecessor and is waterproof to 10 meters, but it is the new GP2 processor that unleashes most of its new talents. New shooting modes include 5.3K/60p, 4K/120p, and 2.7K/240p options. In addition, the touchscreen interface is more responsive, a wired data transfer mode to cell phones has been added, and image quality improvements include local tone mapping and noise reduction in low light conditions. The result is certainly a slight improvement in video quality.
More important to many is the fact that HyperSmooth 4.0 is still the action camera’s best video stabilization technology, and water sports enthusiasts will be pleased with the effective new water repellent coating on the enhanced lens cover. The Hero 10 Black looks similar to the Heo 9 Black, with only one noticeable change: the Hero 10 Black has a blue logo on the sides and front, whereas the previous generation of cameras had the same in gray. Other than that, the Hero 10 Black is physically identical to its predecessor.
Water sports enthusiasts will be pleased with the new tweaks GoPro has made to the front lens; we placed the Hero 10 Black and its predecessor under a faucet and found the new lens cover to be very good at repelling water and leaving no droplets.
Additionally, the lens cover protects against scratches and reduces ghosting. As with the previous model, the lens on the Hero 10 Black is removable, but removing the lens could result in a bomb if something directly hits the lens; Max mode is also supported, but will not be available until the OTA update, which is expected in mid-November.
The GoPro Hero 10 Black has the same 23.6MP, 1/2.3-inch sensor as the Hero 9 Black. However, there is a performance boost here, as this new action camera is paired with a new GP2 processor that unlocks several useful new features GoPro’s biggest upgrade is the GP2 processor, which is the first SoC change in four years. the GP1 is a Hero 9 Black, struggled to keep up with the demand for dual screen, high resolution sensors.
