The GE76 Raider is top-of-the-line because it sacrifices portability and battery life for raw, uncompromising power for a very specific niche. You’d be hard-pressed to find a more powerful machine in a package you could technically take with you. When paired with a monitor, this machine is a true desktop replacement.
We hope you like lights. The GE76 Raider is a showpiece for RGB. It has a lightbar that runs along the keyboard tray and a full-sized SteelSeries keyboard with per-key lighting that can be changed. The Raider is a pretty standard gaming machine otherwise. Its sharp corners and MSI logo make it look like a sports car, and the large grilles on the sides help fans move heat around. The 17.3-inch, 360Hz, 1080p screen doesn’t support touch, which is fine for a gaming computer. But the main part of the machine feels solid, but when I tilt it back and forth, the screen bounces in a scary way.
At 15.6 x 10.6 x 1.08 inches, the Raider is big. It’s also pretty heavy at 6.39 pounds, which could be a problem if you wanted to move it around a lot. However, it’s meant to live on a desk, as shown by the short battery life and ridiculously large power brick. The lighting will also depend on what you like.
On the left side, there are Gen 2 USB 3.2 Type-A and Type-C ports, as well as a 3.5mm headphone/microphone jack. On the right, there is an SD card reader and another pair of Gen 1 USB 3.2 Type-A ports. On the back, there are ports for Thunderbolt 4, Mini Display 1.4, HDMI, Ethernet, and the power adapter. It has a good selection of ports, which is what you need to set this up as a desktop replacement with an external display, a headset, and the best gaming mouse for your needs.
Gaming PCs get hot, and the GE76 Raider is no different. While playing games, the temperature under the machine reached a high of 133.5 degrees Fahrenheit. This would be very uncomfortable to hold in your lap, but given how small it is and how short the battery life is, we don’t think that will happen very often. The MSI Center lets you monitor your hardware and control your fans, and if you want to, you can install a lot more tools. There’s also MSI True Color, which lets you switch between a few different colour profiles or make them fit your needs.
