The Sceptre E248W-19203R is a sleek 24-inch monitor made for everyday tasks like web surfing, reading email, and watching online videos. It uses Twisted-Nematic (TN) panel technology to deliver a sharp FHD picture with wide viewing angles and good grayscale reproduction.
For the price, it’s a good deal for a medium-screen display, but for about the same amount of money, the HP VH240a has better performance, an IPS panel, ergonomic adjustments (height, tilt, and pivot), and more features. The Sceptre E248W-19203R will look good on any desk thanks to its thin bezels and silver metal case. In fact, it’s the second monitor we’ve seen in this price range with a metal design.
Some monitors that cost almost twice as much still have old-fashioned plastics. The cabinet is held up by a stand with a round base that is stabled. With a resolution of 1920 x 1080 and a 16:9 aspect ratio, the 24-inch TN panel can show a full HD (1080p) video. Other features include a 5-microsecond gray-to-gray (G-to-G) Response Time, 250 cd/m2 peak brightness, a 75Hz refresh rate, and a 20,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, which are all about the same as most budget monitors.
There are five small function buttons on the back. Including the power button, which looks like a few small white dots and is near the right edge of the screen when viewed from the front. The buttons are hard to find because they aren’t labelled, and it’s hard to use them when the monitor is on a VESA mount on the wall. The stand can’t be changed in height or swivel, and you can’t turn it to see the screen in portrait mode.
Also on the back of the cabinet are a VGA port, two HDMI ports, a headphone jack, and an AC power jack. The on-screen menu has a nice selection of picture settings, but it doesn’t have the advanced six-color adjustments that you can find on more expensive gaming monitors like the Asus ROG Swift PG258Q. The Standard setting gives the best picture overall, since the other options are either too dark or too bright.
The monitor’s refresh rate is 75Hz, which gives you better frame rates while you game. If you’ve already tried 75Hz and want to try something higher, the Sceptre C326B-185RD may be a better choice for you. In addition to better frame rates, your response time will also improve, which could give you an edge over other gamers whose monitors aren’t as good.
