Introducing the new Pixma. It is very similar to the old Pixma. For example, both the new TR4720 and the old TR4520 measure 7.5 x 17.7 x 11.7 in (w) and weigh 12.7 lbs (13 kg). This is relatively compact and light compared to some rivals such as the HP Envy 6455e, Brother MFC-J805DW and the Editors’ Choice winning Epson Expression Premium XP-7100, but even smaller and lighter such as HP’s Tango X Inkjets can also be found.
As noted above, most AIOs in this price range do not have an automatic document feeder that allows copying and scanning without having to place each sheet on the scan glass; the Pixma TR4720 has a 20-sheet ADF, as do all of the above printers except the Tango X. (Like entry-level inkjet printers, it does not separate the four CMYK colours (cyan, magenta, yellow and black) into four ink cartridges. Instead, it has only two cartridges: a high-capacity black ink tank and a tricolor cartridge that holds the cyan, magenta and yellow hues.
The Canon PIXMA TR4720 is a low-cost all-in-one printer for home use, using a two-cartridge system and compatible with Canon’s PG-275 black and CL-276 tricolour ink cartridges. The scanner has an automatic paper feed function, but does not support duplex scanning; it has USB and Wi-Fi connectivity, is compatible with Apple AirPrint and Morpia Print Service and is compatible with Canon’s mobile apps. This printer is part of Canon’s PIXMA TR4700 series of all-in-one printers. All variants have the same features and performance, with only the model number changing depending on region, dealer and colour of the printer.
The Canon PIXMA TR4720 is a well-equipped family printer. It prints photos with excellent quality, colours that look vivid and fairly accurate, and very good black tones. There is also a hinged flatbed scanner with a slightly raised lid and an automatic document feeder. Unfortunately, the unit print cost is poor and printing directly from external storage is not possible.
The TR4720 is 17.2 in wide, 11.7 in deep (16.2 in with paper installed), 7.5 in high and weighs 12.7 lb (9 kg). It comes with the printer itself, a power cord, instructions and a ‘starter’ ink cartridge (read ‘partially full’). Setting up this printer was mercifully easy and took only about five minutes. Make sure you turn the printer on and download the Canon Selphy app. The app does a really good job at walking you through the steps to get online and connected. You essentially need to sign in to your home Wi-Fi network Work then install the ink cartridges.
