The Endurance Peak II earphones are available in black, blue and white and feature a hook design that hangs over the top of the ear for added security when worn. Three types of ear tips are included in the package: small, medium and large. The earphones come with three types of silicone eartips – large, medium and small – and the fit is very good. However, if you wear glasses, as I do, the hooks behind your ears may conflict with the frame.
The bilateral earpieces have touch-sensitive panels for easy operation. The left ear has a single tap to forward one song and a double tap to back one song. The right ear has a single tap to play/pause and a double tap to call the voice assistant. Single-tapping the left and right ear also ends or answers incoming calls, while swiping up and down on the right ear panel adjusts the volume. All of these controls are easy to use, but we found the volume control to be a little slow to respond and easy to mishandle. There were a few times when we tried to turn the volume down and playback paused, but we had no further trouble, and in general, the tap controls are easy to learn and work well.
[content-egg-block template=offers_logo hide=price]The JBL Endurance Peak 2 is designed for intense workouts, so the headphones are IPX7 rated, meaning they can withstand a depth of up to one metre for 30 minutes and are protected against dust. The headphones are built to withstand abuse and you can feel it from the build quality. When it comes to the touch controls, you can tell that JBL spent a lot of time testing how they work as the user moves around. Physical buttons can be tough to run and operate on the move so touch controls are desirable. The headphones have a large touch area, so there is no need to tap precisely.
Soundstage is average, with a slight representation of sound outside the head, but not very loud. Detail is also average, with a heavy bass response that can bleed into the midrange and sound slightly muddy. While not the most neutral headphones, the JBL Endurance Peak 2 do a good job of making certain genres more exciting, fitting its goal of being an excellent pair of workout headphones.
These lightweight sports-oriented in-ears have a very stable fit thanks to their ear hook design, so they shouldn’t fall out of your ears during your workout. They are also waterproof to the equivalent of IPX7 (although this has not been tested). They are also IPX7 waterproof. However, they may be uncomfortable for prolonged listening. The balanced, neutral mid and high frequencies reproduce vocals and lead instruments clearly and accurately. However, the bass frequencies are over-emphasised and may be overwhelming for some listeners. Unfortunately, no sound customisation features are available.
