These don’t work with higher-quality Bluetooth codecs like aptX or LDAC, and they don’t have Bluetooth multipoint so you can switch between devices. However, they sound great, have a long battery life, and have a bass slider so you can change the bass on the fly. Still, the Skullcandy Crusher Evo headphones will be great for most people.
The Crusher Evo, a USB-C charging cable, an analogue cable, and a carry/storage bag are all in the large product box. The box has a lot of custom-printed surfaces, and the front flap closes with a magnet. This makes it hard, if not impossible, to recycle. The black plastic tray on the inside is made of polystyrene, which may or may not be easy to recycle depending on where you live.
I don’t usually start a headphone review with the sound section, but since the bass slider is the main selling point of these headphones, it made sense to me to do so. As with most headphones, though, the sound quality is only one part of the question “Are these really good?” You also need to think about how they fit and what features they have.
When it comes to how they fit, these are around-ear headphones, which are usually my first choice because they don’t squeeze my ears. The cup pads are comfortable enough to wear for long periods of time, and they don’t get in the way of my glasses, which are both big pluses in my book. The padding on the band is a bit thicker than the padding on the cups, but it is still soft enough for my bald head. When your head doesn’t have padding built in, band padding is important.
Aside from the bass slider, these are pretty easy to use in terms of layout. On the right cup are the volume and play/pause buttons. On the left cup are the power button, bass slider, and USB-C charging port. There is also a 3.5mm audio jack for listening to music with a cable. There’s nothing really special going on here; it’s just the usual. It’s true. It’s good.
The Skullcandy Crusher Evo headphones connect to your listening device through Bluetooth 5.0, and we found that they kept a pretty good connection throughout testing. Still, they don’t support Bluetooth multipoint, so you can’t connect them to more than one device at a time. We hope that more businesses will start using this standard.
Even better, though, is that the headphones have a 40-hour battery life, which is very good. That’s a lot, and it means you shouldn’t have to worry about charging your phone too often. And they have technology that lets them charge quickly, which is great for when you forget to charge them.
