Dell crammed a lot of laptop into the 14-inch Inspiron 15 3000’s body. The bezels surrounding the 15.6-inch display are thin, but not as thin as on premium laptops. As a result, despite its small size, the laptop has a large screen. When you open the Inspiron 15 3000, an ErgoLift hinge raises the screen slightly, which is a nice touch. This hinge also improves the keyboard’s angle.
The Inspiron 15 3511 is the direct successor to the Inspiron 15 3501 from last year. It features a completely new chassis design that is both thinner and lighter for improved portability. There are a few other pleasant surprises that help the Inspiron 15 3511 outperform many other models in its price range. Core i3-1115G4 up to Core i7-1165G7 with UHD Graphics or Iris Xe, 4 GB to 12 GB of RAM, and 128 GB to 512 GB PCIe NVMe storage are available. A 1080p IPS display with optional touch is standard.
Our review unit is a mid-range configuration with a Core i5 CPU, 8 GB of single-channel RAM, a 256 GB SSD, and a 1080p touchscreen that retails for around $550 USD. It’s at the bottom of the graphics pool and has half the memory we’d expect from a decent laptop, but the processor is still a step up from the Celeron CPU found in even cheaper laptops. Our entry-level test configuration costs $323, but if you’re willing to spend a little more money, you can get up to 12GB of RAM, an Iris Xe graphics solution, and up to 512GB of storage. On the software front, the main draw is Windows 11, Microsoft’s most recent operating system. The Inspiron 15 3000 ships with Windows 11 S, a version of Windows that restricts app downloads to the Microsoft Store. This, thankfully, can be easily reversed with a few clicks within the Microsoft Store app, restoring you to full Windows 11 functionality. Aside from a McAfee antivirus app, there isn’t much bloatware on the computer.
When compared to the older Inspiron 15 3501, the newer Inspiron 15 3511 has fewer ports. The cable lock slot and RJ-45 port, for example, are no longer available. Dell didn’t even bother with a USB-C port. According to Dell’s product page, the HDMI port here can only support up to 1080p60, with no 2K or 4K options. The Inspiron 15 3000’s battery life is adequate. Streaming 1080p content at full brightness will deplete the battery in about six hours. Expect about 6.5 hours of real-world WLAN use before the internal 40 Wh battery needs to be recharged.
