If you are a teacher, you must first set up a teacher account. Then you need to make your class and make changes to it. Students can use different kinds of media, such as pictures, videos, drawings, text, links, and PDFs, to show what they know with the Seesaw app.
All of this is on the Seesaw site, which means teachers can look at it, rate it, and even share it with parents and guardians. The student portfolio grows over time, so users can keep it with them as they go through school. This is a great way for other teachers to see how the student has improved over time and even how they worked to get to the end result.
How to Add Students on Seesaw
If you choose to import a class from Google Classroom when making your Seesaw class, your students will already be in Seesaw and can use their Google accounts to join in. You can always synchronize Google Classroom again if you add more kids. Tap the wrench button, and then tap “Import from Google Classroom.”
If your students are using email or Google accounts to sign in to Seesaw (this was chosen for you automatically if your class is in Grades 4+), you do NOT need to add them to your class list. The first time your students use Seesaw, they can join your class on their own.
Sign in to Seesaw with your teaching account, tap the + Students button (bottom right), and copy your class’s text code to get the Student Code. Give your kids this code. To join your class, students will:
- Open the Seesaw App or go to http://app.seesaw.me on a Chrome or Firefox browser
- Tap I’m a Student.
- Insert the class code in the text code field and tap go.
- Tap Create Email Account or Use Google Account.
- Create their account and connect to your class.
What is Seesaw?
Seesaw, also called Seesaw for Schools, is an app that lets teachers, students, and parents share and work together on school projects. Seesaw’s goal, according to the company’s website, is to “create an environment where students are inspired to be the best.” The online version of Seesaw is easy to use, and the Seesaw Parent & Family app is available for both Android and iPhone devices.
But it’s important to remember that Seesaw is not a place to watch live videos. As more schools and learning centers offer online learning, Seesaw can no longer be used without a video tool as well. Still, Seesaw is a great addition to these tools to help handle remote classrooms (as well as classrooms in real life).
