Make your Mac truly yours by customizing its desktop. While you can put stickers or cases, a simple yet elegant way of personalizing your device is by changing the desktop wallpaper or screensaver. Here’s how.
Choose from Apple’s Default Backgrounds
The easiest way to set up or modify your wallpaper or screensaver is through the System Preferences menu. Click on the Apple icon on the top left of your screen, select System Preferences, then click on Desktop & Screen Saver. Browse through the high-quality wallpapers provided by Apple and select one–or set up a slideshow. Under the Solid Colors folder, you’ll also find some plain backgrounds.
Use Your Own Photos
Searching for that perfect background photo? Look through your Photos by selecting the Photos folder in the Desktop & Screen Saver window. You can also select Moments, Collections, Years, Places to easily go through your whole library. Or if browsing in full screen is more your thing, open the full Photos app, select the photo you want, right-click or ctrl-click it, and then choose “Set Desktop Image.”
Add Third-Party Wallpapers
You can also download wallpapers from the internet and add them to the list of available options. Just drag and drop the downloaded file into a new folder under Folders, which appears at the bottom of the Desktop & Screen Saver window. Then, select the folder you created and choose a wallpaper or set up a slideshow.
Set up a Screensaver
You can also change your device’s screensaver to a favorite photo, video or animation. Simply click on the “Screen Saver” tab in the Desktop & Screen Saver window. Then, select from the numerous built-in screensavers, or choose a folder that contains your desired files. You can also set the length of time for the screensaver to activate.
That’s it – simple and easy customization.
