Today, we’ll talk about how to See Who’s Tracking You Online, what kind of information they’re getting, and what you can do to stop them. Everyone wants to know about you. From the NSA to your local government to Google and everyone in between. Tracking data isn’t important to everyone, of course. Not unless you tell them the government can see them.
But there are more than one way to track people online. Even if it’s not as big, it could still be something that breaks your right to privacy. When you worry about your privacy online, you can now keep a score. An update to Mozilla Firefox that came out last week adds a report card that shows you how many tracking attempts have been blocked in the last week. This is in addition to the tracking protection that was already in place.
Ways to See Who’s Tracking You Online
With Safari’s Privacy Report
You can block cross-site tracking in the Safari browser from Apple. It also has a Privacy Report that shows all the sites and agencies that are collecting information about you. You can also go to the official Apple support site tp know more information about this.
Before you block these trackers, you might want to check which sites are following you online and collecting information about you. With this information, you might decide that cross-site tracking isn’t a big deal for the way you browse, or you might decide to stay away from certain websites.
- Launch the Safari web browser.
- In the toolbar, select “Safari -> Privacy Report.”
- Select the “Websites” tab. This will display information about all the websites that are profiling you.
- Choose the Tracks tab. This shows a list of all the trackers that are collecting information about you. This includes the companies that made these trackers and how many times Safari found them while you were browsing.
You can also find out how annoying a website is by going to it and then clicking on the shield icon that shows up next to Safari’s address bar. Then you can choose “Trackers on This Web Page,” and Safari will show you a list of all the trackers that are active on this page. Once you have a list of all the websites and agencies that are tracking you, you can:
- In the Safari toolbar, select “Safari -> Preferences … ”
- Select the “Privacy” tab.
- Select the following checkbox: “Prevent Cross-Site Tracking.”
Block trackers with Chrome’s Ghostery extension
Chrome can ask websites not to collect or track your browsing data while you’re on the web. It’s important to remember that this is a request, so there’s no guarantee that every website will follow it. Chrome doesn’t tell you which websites are tracking you online, which is frustrating. Still, we recommend turning on this feature because it can reduce the number of websites that can track your online movements:
- In Chrome’s upper-right corner, select the three-dot menu icon, then “Settings.”
- In the menu on the left, select “Privacy and security.”
- Click “Cookies and other site data.”
- Find the “Do not track” slider and push it into the “On” position.
Ghostery is an add-on for Google Chrome that lets you see and stop online trackers. After installing Ghostery, you can see all the trackers on a website:
- Head to the site in question.
- Click the “Extensions” icon in the Chrome toolbar.
- Select “Ghostery” to see a list of all the trackers this extension has detected.
- You can block all of these trackers by selecting the “Detailed” tab and then clicking “Restrict site.”
Block trackers, and make exceptions
You could choose to block trackers when you first set up Opera. If you didn’t take Opera up on its offer then, you can start blocking trackers now:
- Along the left side of the Opera browser, click the cog icon. This opens Opera’s settings.
- In the menu on the left, select “Basic.”
- Find the “Block Trackers” slider and push it into the “On” position.
- Some websites might not work as well if you block trackers. If you start to notice strange things happening on a certain website, you may want to add it to the list of sites you want to let through. If you give this site permission to use trackers, you should be able to fix any problems you’re having.
To make a special case for one or more sites:
- Launch Opera’s settings by clicking the little cog icon.
- Navigate to “Basic -> Manage Exceptions.”
- Click “Add” and then type the address of the site where you want to permit trackers.

With the *#62# settings question code, you can find out if your calls or texts are being sent to another number when you’re not available.
